MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell just could not contain himself. In his eagerness to defeat President Donald J. Trump he rushed out on his show Tuesday night to report that a source close to the matter told him that Deutsche Bank had President Donald J. Trump's tax returns, they confirmed he paid little to no taxes, and that, here's what O'Donnell said was the huge bombshell, that the Trumpster had loans co-signed with Russian oligarchs close to Vladimir Putin. The only problem with this? It was based off a "single source," O'Donnell's employer never confirmed the story, and even Deutsche Bank is refusing to confirm the story.
O'Donnell told his colleague Rachel Maddow that a "single source close to Deutsche Bank has told me that Donald Trump's loan documents there show that he has co-signers. That's how he was able to obtain those loans. And that the co-signers are Russian oligarchs."
"If true," O'Donnell theorized, "that would be a significant factor in Vladimir Putin's publicly stated preference for presidential candidate Donald Trump over presidential candidate Hillary Clinton."
But by the end of the show, he told his audience that he wanted to "stress" these allegations were from a single source and that his network had not confirmed the story yet.
On Wednesday, an NBC booking producer confirmed that "The information came from a single source who has not seen the bank records. NBC has not seen those records and has not yet been able to verify the reporting."
Shortly after, O'Donnell tweeted that, "Last night I made an error in judgment by reporting an item about the presidents finances that didnt go through our rigorous verification and standards process." "I shouldnt have reported it and I was wrong to discuss it on the air. I will address the issue on my show tonight," he added. But, hey, O'Donnell probably thought "why let the truth get in the way of a good story?" Either that or he was simply chomping at the bit to find a story that actually proves Trump's a Russian puppet. Keep trying, buddy.
Mission accomplished, the lie was spread. The correction is a whisper.
Saying he was wrong to report it is not the same as admitting it was a fake news story from the get-go.
He’s an asswipe and whoever is letting MSNBC run this way is even worse. NBCU shareholders are getting screwed.
“error in judgement” = blatant lying
About 2 months ago yes but now the Russian thing is passe and is now an albatross around the neck of those who hatched it.
Every company has standards the question always is do they live up to those standards.
The most important question is do they hold accountable those who fail to live up to those standards.
If you have standards without accountability is like having no standards at all and is at its worst; hypocrisy.
So, will Laurence ODonnell and his producer be held to account for this blatant failure to up hold MSNBC standards of reporting?
Yep!!!
Typical lying scum Democrat.
“because the asshole got word in the news vine Trump was gonna sue his sorry ass for millions.”
He still can. (And should) In today’s world, do you know the difference between CNN and a grocery store tabloid?
Really nothing. That’s where CNN gets a lot of their prime news alerts anyway. They are the rigorous verification and standards people they are so proud of.
Can’t wait for the two headed human to toss his hats into the ring for the libs entry for the 2020 POTUS. And I don’t want to hear anything about two heads being better than one. Bad enough that Biden talks to himself now as it is.

STOP THE HAMMERING !
>>>O’Donnell tweeted that, “Last night I made an error in judgment...
Truly a stupid man!
Statements made on TV live forever on the internet. Google, etc can make sure that the lie comes up on top of a search while the correction is on page 18.
Wait til Hillary is “forced” to run “for the good of our Democracy.” New Years Day will tell the tales.
He tells a lie and then cnn tells the same lie, then ABC..but only MSNBC says it is not true..so 70 percent think it is true..
Even if all of that were true it still rates nothing but So what?
No surprises here.
What laws of common decency, courtesy, honesty and professionalism HASN’T O’Donnell broken?
I have witnessed this jerk over the years in many different venues and in every job he has had...he has TOTALLY FAILED.
I hope President Trump continues with the lawsuit. All he has to do to win, as a public persona, is prove...MALICE.
If you watch O’Donnell at all you know he has malice.
I read his book Playing With Fire (please do not pay for it) about the 1968 election.
He made totally gratuitous anti-Trump statements. ——The crowd must have reminded people of the George Wallace racist as the first time such people came out since then.—— Trump’s father made anti black statements to young Trump that were common in Trump’s home growing up, about blacks leaving rented properties vandalized and unpaid for.
Total junk and nothing to do with 1968.
First: suit every news outlet that carried the allegation, 1 billion each.
Second: refuse to answer any quedtions during press conferences from reporters from those orgs ‘based on advice from legal counsel’ due to ongoing lawsuits with their employers.
