...DESTRUCTIVE HURRICANE-FORCE WINDS LASHING GRAND BAHAMA ISLAND...
This is a life-threatening situation. Residents on Grand Bahama
Island should not leave their shelter when the eye passes over, as
winds will rapidly increase on the other side of the eye. Residents
in the Abacos should continue to stay in their shelter until
conditions subside later today.
Hazards:
- Wind Gusts to 200 mph
- Storm Surge 18 to 23 feet above normal tide levels with higher
destructive waves
These hazards will continue over Grand Bahama Island during most of
the day, causing extreme destruction on the island.

OMG
Call me skeptical. The same two or three videos are all over twitter, same ones since last night. The big extreme weather guys on the island haven’t transmitted anything in almost 24 hours. Do we know where these twitter videos are really coming from?
Well that's not good news for Grand Bahama Island.
Why no reporters in Bahamas? They were all in Puerto Rico to blame Trump.
If I were a reporter I would refuse to go, not with 200MPH wind gusts!
I feel like the news actually relies on twitter.
Looks like that may have been a wobble more than anything else. Latest on I seen wobbled back to the west and slightly south.
Isn’t that Morgerman guy a storm chaser? I really don’t have any sympathy for him if that is the case.
Disney builds in a very professional manner from accounts of other contractors that have worked on their projects.
That being said, design strength is only as good as the individual materials and small details. I have been involved in forensic investigations of building failures and it is sometimes a very small feature that is damaged and other damage builds from there. If the Disney workers were local Bahamians, then it is very likely that the shelter was stronger than their home.
Gonna need to redraw the map of the northern Bahamas after Dorian.
Are there people in those cars trying to hide out? Safer than maybe inside a shack? I’m ignorant of Freeport so just asking.
Im with you! And the further east this thing goes, the better!
Stuck on the island. Been wobbling back and forth from south coast to north coast. Now going through eye wall cycle replacement. Time to use dice and chicken entrails to predict this one.
Thanks
Jernise Fernandez, who is a reporter from Miami, was making reports via a satellite phone from Marsh Harbour. I think her last report was made sometime yesterday during a period of relative calm when the eye was over her location.
I dont think she has made a report since then. My guess is that some of the reporters in the Bahamas will not make it back.
Sort of reminds me of Jarrow Texas when they had that F5 tornado. One mile wide and moved at 1 MPH. Churn churn churn...

First video coming in from Bahamas after Dorian passed through and it’s complete devastation http://bit.ly/30QN7wp
Starts with the tight eye moving west, shows the stall, shows the eye wall breaking down in its previously circular shape as the wall rebuilds, shows the hurricane center starting NNW, shows the new Eye Wall with a bigger diameter at the end.
Those weren’t Morgerman’s kids. He was sheltering in a school that Bahamas had designated as a shelter. Those were Bahamian kids.
I’ve followed Morgerman for several years. He’s always by himself or with another adult. No kiddos.
