North Korea appears to be preparing to test a new ballistic missile submarine capable of launching nuclear missiles, significantly bolstering the regime’s ability to conduct long-distance attacks.
Satellite photographs taken Monday of the Sinpo South Shipyard in North Korea show the new submarine with nearby cranes and support craft, suggesting the submarine may be in preparation for a launch test.
Last month, North Korea claimed that Kim Jong Un had inspected a “newly built submarine” at the shipyard.
The new photographs appear to confirm the claim, say Joseph Bermudez and Victor Cha of Beyond Parallel, a research project backed by the Center for Strategic and International Studies.
While North Korea has claimed that the submarine is nearly ready for deployment at sea, however, Bermudez and Cha remain skeptical, suggesting it could take over a year for the submarine to be fully operational, even after its construction has been completed.
If and when the submarine does become operational, it will mark a “significant advancement of the North Korean ballistic missile and nuclear threat and complicate defense planning in the region, given the difficulties of tracking and/or pre-emptively targeting such capabilities,” Bermudez and Cha wrote.

It is a 1950's Romeo class submarine that the North Koreans were working on before Trump was in office.
At some point all of Lil Dong’s military hardware is either going to be used or be destroyed. The sad part is that the choice between building arms and feeding people has fallen on the former. I hope this ends peacefully but reality tells me no. As far as his little sub is concerned,I’m not worried. Just another future wreck at the bottom.

And the up-to-date assessment would have to be, “that little f@#$er just played me.” He was supposed to knock it off with the missiles, including delivery systems such as subs.

He would receive a security briefing each day of the most important stuff.
He’s not going to tell everything he knows in public.
He may receive it but he’s as clueless about it as Bagdad Bob, probably more even a lot worse
He was told the truth in these matters by his intelligence directorate, all the iron clad assessments, satellite interp, open source—(and closed) , internal docs, He in so many words said, “I don’t want to hear it.” (Added: “because it will prove I was wrong”). So they were shown the door or showed themselves the door. He wants Yes Men. Well he’s got them now.

How can you speak with any authority about what the President was told or what he said in response during intelligence briefings? None of us know that with any certainty.

I don’t doubt that he will deal with the situation swiftly and effectively. I would rap the fat ass-clown’s knuckles good and hard. I would expect him to do the same, but he has his own judgment, and he hasn’t let us down yet.
Once America was “protected” by Mutually Assurred Destruction. Today we are well protected by a new mechanism. No enemy would do us the favor of vaporizing or large urban centers.
