We cannot undo America's sordid history, but we can at least take down the monuments glorifying it. In the wake of the recent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville against the removal of a Robert E. Lee statue, confederate monuments are coming down all over the country. Protesters in Durham, North Carolina toppled a statue put up by the United Daughters of the Confederacy in 1924. The mayor of Baltimore had the city's Confederate statues removed under the cloak of night. And yesterday, Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams called for the 90 foot bas relief sculpture of three Confederate generals to be blasted off the face of Stone Mountain.
"It is 2017, and now is the time for us to have a conversation about removing the last vestiges of that type of hatred and that type of vitriol toward minority communities in Georgia," Abrams told local news.
In response to calls like Adams', right-wing sites began rhetorically asking, What's next, blowing up Mount Rushmore? But given the racist history that both Stone Mountain and Mount Rushmore share, is there something more to that question than alarmism alone?

And the slope just keeps getting slipperier and slipperier. To alleviate history in any country is nothing more than censorship. How many people today will be erased in the future for doing things that are a different outlook in the future. When we use denial to cope with what we feel, we contradict the reality of a situation or attempt to adjust to a circumstance by neglecting its existence.
You can’t have feelings about a blank slate unless you equate it to what you know. And the people they destroyed haven’t walked the earth for well over 7 generations. And we all know the stretching of the truth or the misunderstanding caused by time. (And agenda)

I know what she can do with that bottle once she’s done drinking from it.
I’m pretty sure North Carolina has a similar law - a law doesn’t mean much when the powers don’t have the will to enforce it.
I want to see someone suggest renaming everything in West Virginia that is named after Senator Robert Byrd, Grand Klegal of the KKK.
The Democrats want to remove statues and rename everything. Start with their own KKK member.
Last stand? By a massively obese population whose daughters only have offspring with men from other races? Southerners have all the hallmarks of a defeated people, no different that reservation Indians. We lost the civil war and then we lost the culture war.
The insane rage in this country is tearing us apart. So much hate and anger.
Love is cast out, forgotten. Forgiveness is no longer in our vocabulary. People are either good or evil, depending on what ideology they subscribe to. Once a person is known to have any evil in his past or in his thoughts, we must never acknowledge any good in him.
There is no desire for reconciliation, for seeing good in those who oppose us. It is all or nothing. Hate and rage rule the day.
But he reformed (began to vote with the liberal side of the Dem party), dontcha know?
This is what happens when you don’t mock idiots. They think they have the right and then ultimately they do. BECAUSE WE DO NOTHING.
I know nothing of Alabama in a personal way so I cannot comment.
You seem to know it and if what you say is true, that is unfortunate.
Yes. Im not from Alabama but am from one of the states of the old confederacy. It is all, unfortunately, true.
I knew something was wrong when the statues and flags and everything else was taken down without a battle.
They even poisoned the southern kids in the schools, I guess.
It broke my heart.
It’s still a heck of a lot better than what we have up here though!!
I’m a Staten Islander and I HATE the warm weather or I would be in Texas with my old boss.
I also enjoy the fall.
But the other 4 boroughs call us rednecks and it’s a name we wear proudly.
...destroying the art and oils of the masters.

I’ve read that Renoir is suspect because all his nudes are of white women.
No joke.

Get over your sorry ass stoopidity
Time to start destroying and/or renaming everything related to or named for that revered democrat Ku-Klux-Klansman and Exalted Cyclops of the Klan, Senator Robert C. Byrd.
There is something so American about looking at the enormity of natureat millions-of-years-old rockand thinking, “You know what this needs? White guys.”

I have to admit, I chuckled when I read that.
I so love being an American. USA, USA, USA!
Liberals need to demand that all buildings named after racist KKK leader Robert Byrd be renamed.
Cher thought it was a natural rock formation - Sonny Bono.
We will have to destroy the Chief Crazy Horse monument too.
You’ll have to wait another 150 years before that happened, when it’s finally done....and have to nuke it!
