Although Tropical Storm Dorians five-day forecast cone now reaches South Florida, its effects will be felt by the time it nears Puerto Rico, where a hurricane watch and and tropical storm warning were issued early Tuesday.
At 8 a.m. Tuesday, Dorian was located about 15 miles southeast of St. Lucia or about 1,500 miles from South Florida with maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and moving toward the northwest at 13 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.
According to the latest update, Dorian is forecast to have winds close to, but below, hurricane strength during the next five days.

Okay, if Dorian remains BELOW hurricane strength during the next five days, that means it would be under hurricane strength if/when it hits Florida. However, I would expect there to be a lot of rain here no matter what. I might be livestreaming Dorian when/IF it hits in this area. Oh, and don't expect much in the way of coherent commentary from me since even if it remains a tropical storm, I am counting it as a hurricane for hurricane party purposes and will be imbibing heavily as is traditional in such situations. But no matter how incoherent I might become, you will be be getting an interesting view of the storm.

Perhaps if we give it Puerto Rico Dorian will be appeased.

Much of our area in west central Florida is completely soaked from recent tropical rains. Our water table is very high. Additional tropical moisture, while great for our grass, is not so great for low-lying, flood-prone areas.
We’re not worried about the wind. We’re worried about the water.

If you don’t mind, I’ll get a bottle of JD and party in spirit with you guys!!
I remember as a kid in NYC wanting a hurricane to reach us because it was so exotic and foreign.
Flash forward to Sandy and I’m driving a cab overnight for extra money.
I drove by a ship that was tossed on land.
That was enough for me.
Don’t know how you guys do it regularly.

Water wings. When we lived in Cocoa we had about 20 feet of elevation. But when a really wet one smacked it we had a LOT of standing water in the yard for days.

Now we’ll hear from all of the alarmists ... “See, we told you there would be big hurricanes this year!”

Dont know how you guys do it regularly. Actually not as much in the way of hurricane activity in South Florida as in the Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Florida Panhandle areas. Why? A big reason is because of what is likely to happen: It will hit one of the Greater Antilles such as Hispaniola and lose much of its strength when passing over the mountains.

I leave for Barbados on Tuesday for a much needed vacation. If things aren’t looking good there after the storm, I’ll still go, but will help with the cleanup.

Just returned to Washington from France and the very successful G-7, only to find that the Fake News is still trying to perpetuate the phony story that I wanted to use Nuclear weapons to blow up hurricanes before they reach shore. This is so ridiculous, never happened!

Darn, we could have set it off over Puerto Rico and saved billions in wasted aid and supplies.

A storm is coming to Florida at the end of August? It must be climate change because that’s never happened before. /s

My black labs love the water in the back yard. I gave up telling them to stay out of the water. Hopefully the mosquitoes will get blown to somewhere else.
