A coalition of progressive groups is asking 2020 Democratic candidates to pledge to restore the Obama-era net neutrality rules repealed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) during the Trump administration.

“The FCC’s net neutrality repeal ignored the voices of millions from across the political spectrum, in what ended up being one of the biggest and most undemocratic giveaways to the telecom industry we’ve ever seen,” Mark Stanley, a spokesman for the group Demand Progress, said in a statement.

“For too long, phone and cable companies have exerted in an undue influence in Washington, by pushing unpopular policies that harm the American people’s ability to communicate and access crucial services online,” he added. “It’s time candidates fight this corrosive influence by refusing contributions from the telecom industry.”

Other groups backing the pledge include People for the American Way, Color of Change, Daily Kos, Common Cause, Fight for the Future and Democracy for America.

Regardless of the fact none of their apocalyptic predictions about the end of 'net neutrality' have come true, the totalitarian left will not rest until the government has control of the internet.

The list of those who supports NN should make it clear who believes they should be writing the rules.

I will fully support net neutrality if it includes google and Apple and Netflix and twitter...

Oh... that’s not what they mean by net “neutrality”

This is just an ad campaign so google and Apple and Netflix and twitter St al won’t have to pay for their increased usage.

First time I heard about net neutrality was over ten years ago and it was being pushed by an American commie with philosophical ties to Chinese Communism.

Back then I didn't know what he was talking about ... only that whatever he was pushing was to help communists - - to hurt our county.

Where did the all the rabid NN supporters go? FR was infested with them. There are still many here who would gut the constitution if it hurt the mainstream social media giants.

The general public didn’t know what it was for.

Net Neutrality was a highly organized and funded effort by key Silicon Valley companies to restrict the internet to only approved messages.
It has been in the works for at least 6 years.
The GOP-e would know this if they ever bothered to listen to Americans.

Trump figured this out right away.

The problem as always is that the Left keeps perverting the language, and NN thus does not mean the same thing to any two people.

To me it means that Verizon and Comcast should not be allowed to toss technical tacks in the rear view mirror to prevent me from streaming cable TV from some other provider.

That is not a radical position.

Is pricing based on usage a “tack”?

Correct. I criticized the net neutrality regulations at the time because it did not provide First Amendment free speech protections in writing. Without that proviso, net neutrality becomes a government power grab.

What you think NN is doesn't matter - it is what the people implementing NN believe it to be, and the Leftists are the ones overwhelmingly pushing this Trojan horse. Bottom line, NN isn't what you think it is, and should never be implemented since no one in DC can be trusted to do it properly.

All the video gamers want net neutrality because they still think it will prevent them from getting lag killed on Call of Duty. I swear I’ve seen it rationalized as ‘I get bad pings on Fortnite because Netflix gets all the bandwidth!’

It’s all so nonsensical I knew I couldn’t support it. Ever.

Since NN died, I’m not sure anyone out in the internet universe will ever get this message, because all of humanity and the web-isphere was going to DIE if NN was repealed.

But, just in case someone does get to read this: YAY! Net neutrality is DEAD!
