President Donald Trump said Sunday he could declare the escalating U.S.-China trade war as a national emergency if he wanted to.

“In many ways this is an emergency,” Trump said of the ongoing trade battle between the world’s top two economies.

Clouding the G-7 gathering, which represents the world’s major industrial economies, are the tit-for-tat tariffs between Washington and Beijing.

Clouding the G-7 gathering, which represents the world’s major industrial economies, are the tit-for-tat tariffs between Washington and Beijing.

On Friday, Trump said he would raise existing duties on $250 billion in Chinese products to 30% from 25% on Oct. 1. What’s more, tariffs on another $300 billion of Chinese goods, which start to take effect on Sept. 1, will now be 15% instead of 10%.

When asked if Trump had second thoughts about Friday’s move to escalate the trade war with China, Trump said “Yup.” “I have second thoughts about everything,” he added.

Hours later, the White House issued a statement saying that Trump meant to say that he wished he had raised tariffs on Beijing even higher.

SAINT-JEAN-DE-LUZ, France — President Donald Trump said Sunday he could declare the escalating U.S.-China trade war as a national emergency if he wanted to.

“In many ways this is an emergency,” Trump said at the G-7 leaders meeting of the ongoing trade battle between the world’s top two economies.

“I could declare a national emergency, I think when they steal and take out and intellectual property theft anywhere from $300 billion to $500 billion a year and when we have a total lost of almost a trillion dollars a year for many years,” Trump said, adding that he had no plan right now to call for a national emergency.

We have been in a one way Trade War for the last 20 years.

All President Trump is asking to China is to have the same tariffs on both sides.

The Fake Stream Media pretends China acts as if the USA is out of line for asking for same level of tariffs as China does to U.S. goods.

Gold prices are shooting up over the last 6 months.

Yeah, I made money on that trade but I could've made a lot more if I stayed in it longer.

National emergencies have been named for the dumbest things imaginable. This one is REAL. It is existential. He should do it.

Here is the deal. Not just a “national emergency”, but there is an act that allows for the very specific “INTERNATIONAL EMERGENCY ECONOMIC POWERS ACT” that gives the President very broad powers.

Way more than that ... China needs to stop stealing ideas & technology, stop spying on everyone, stop supplying opiods to the World, stop manipulating their currency, stop supporting terroristic states like Iran and Venezuela (by buying their oil), stop threatening its neighbors, stop throwing pro-democracy people into jail, stop interfering in US politics, etc. etc.

China needs to stop a LOT of the crap they're doing

DJT just created a metric ton of leverage just by mentioning national emergency.

I thought he should have doubled them, with the promise of another doubling. He’s got to disabuse China of the notion that there is an advantage to procrastinating until after 2020.

Have you seen the Chinese sponsored video’s slamming the U.S. for “Dreamers” and retiree’s going to Mexico to escape “The politics since Trump”?

It’s NOT the Russians trying to manipulate the next election nearly so much as the Chinese!

They don’t even try to hide it, the vids are all over you-tube.
They do NOT want Pres. Trump to win on 2020, they want to go back to screwing us over as they did for too long.

Now we have a MASSIVE shipment of fentanyl into Mexica from China.
No bombs or bullets, but I would say we are in fact already at war with China.
Stupid of them, we are the “Goose who laid the Golden Egg’s” for them.

I’m hoping this ends safely, and with most manufacturing returned to the USA.

To: mylife; All

There is no going back. Trump took on China head-on, as he said he would. This will have to be solved NOW. Why are any of you surprised? Why are any of you disappointed? Unbeknownst to most, China lost the trade war on Friday. Trump tricked China into involuntarily showing the world how much leverage the US has over them in plain-as-day form; $75 billion is ALL they have in their pocket, to our $500 billon. China had its worst quarter in over a decade last quarter. Both sides know this. It’s now an image war. Who can maintain their image of power and outlast the other?

Those who are against this must understand China is communism’s mothership. At this moment, China is capable in overrunning ALL of Asia and Africa, including one of our strongest trading partners, Japan. President Xi himself has stated his plans to take over Asia. Either we take them down now economically, or Asia will be lost to communism and it will turn into a hot war within 5 years. If Hong Kong falls, all of Asia and Western influence within Asia will be in retreat by the end of the year. This retreat will also materialize within Africa. Greenland also plays a role in this scenario; the campaign to buy Greenland was a show of force by the US.

Don’t fool yourself, this confrontation was an inevitability regardless, and Trump can outright win this economic battle this week. All he has to do is stick to his guns and bring China to under 3% GDP growth by the 4th quarter.
