You may be right.
I spent maybe 15-20 hours with this man’s intellect while reading “Saving Normal” and thought he was one of that increasingly rare breed, old-fashioned liberals with some common sense and common decency.
Read his Wikipedia entry to get an idea of the reasonable objections he has raised against the DSM-5 and current psychiatric practice.
The Dr. Frances I encountered in his fine book was not a renegade or a loose cannon — in many respects he represented the conscience of an often-maligned profession.
I won’t say he became an intellectual hero of mine, but he impressed me as a serious and responsible intellect, one to be respected.
Pity, pity, pity.
They are not a news network, its clear.
I’ve known Allen for about 10 years and heard him lecture many times, including Grand Rounds for Psychiatrists at Duke Hospital.
He has an ego bigger than the Taj Mahal.
This man was in charge of determining the criteria for mental illness diagnosis.
THESE ARE THE SAME CRITERIA USED TO RED FLAG PEOPLE TO LOSE THEIR GUNS.
He did all he could to delay the DSM-5 as he got the royalties on the DSM-4.
Allen is slipping. He was an expert witness on some major litigation I worked on against a Big Pharma. Cross exam tore him to shreds.

Again, my observations are strictly from reading his book, which, as I stated, I found entirely worthwhile.
As for “ego bigger than” ... that describes way too many physicians I have known over the years. The bedside manner is pretty much a thing of the past ... you are nothing but a collection of numbers.
I wrote professionally for the better part of 30 years, and I can tell you it’s tough to discover that someone whose writing you admire is, shall we say, morally and ethically challenged.
I wound up working a year for a regionall popular “conservative” pundit who turned out to be probably the nastiest person I met in the news business. With this dude, it was always personal — according to His Highness, I lacked the “killer instinct” of a real reporter. My take is that I’m obliged to quote everyone accurately, and whether agree with them or like them matters not a whit.
Last I heard, he had lost quite a bit of money, but not enough that he’s living in a tent.
In all fairness, that whole “profession” is a scam.
Surely there is a libel suit built into this crazy woman’s rant?

Their intentions toward what they intend to do to us could not be plainer. Their statements can be taken at face value and heeded or ignored at your peril. To Illustrate: The muslim holy book plainly states that is the duty of every muslim to convert or kill the infidel. How many infidels including me believe that?
