That will be very bad for the Japanese.
I have come to know, from my own bodily experience, that High Fructose Corn Syrup causes (or greatly contributes to) Type II Diabetes.
Furthermore, the French (!) actually understand how bad corn is for you. Short story: My cousin married a guy from the French region of Canada. During the wedding, the French-Canadian guys' parents flew in from France. We treated them to a good-old Upstate New York country cookout on our property. We served them a plate of the regular fare -- BBQ pork, hamburgers, potato salad, macaroni salad, a few other items, and a couple of ears of corn slathered in butter.
The French parents looked at the plates like they had just been served dog food.
We asked them what was the matter. They explained, through the son, that corn is what LIVESTOCK ate. You NEVER serve it to a human.
Nowadays -- after having acquired Type II -- I agree.
Thanks for posting. Health/life BUMP.
“The French parents looked at the plates like they had just been served dog food.”
What, no french fries, fried chicken, and other deliciously fried foods?
Yes, but would you hit the corn? :P
That said, the Japanese are likely buying the corn for animal feed. Corn *is* liked as a food by the Japanese, HFCS isn’t so much of a thing for them - but the major Japanese use of corn is to feed their livestock: https://www.world-grain.com/articles/9613-japan-corn-imports-to-remain-high
Was told as a kid “there are starving kids in China who would love to have that to eat”. Which is becoming true again, thanks to Presiden Xi, but evidently not so in France.
Japan can sell excess corn to China, since they won’t deal with the US, problem solved. Tell them it tastes like soy.
I wont dispute that there are healthier foods to eat than corn. However, type two diabetes is caused by obesity and lack of exercise. My brother was diagnosed with type two diabetes. He was significantly overweight. He started lecturing me on my diet. I told him the reason I do not have type two diabetes is that I run on the treadmill 4 to 5 times per week. I told him to do the same and his type two diabetes would go away. He took me up on the challenge, and three months later he was off of the medication for type two diabetes. So yes, Diet does play a role. However, if you exercise frequently, you do not have to worry about acquiring type two diabetes, and if you currently are diagnosed with it, it will go away with the exercise.
That said, since weve been eating lower carb (no breads, pastas, or sugar-sweetened items, or high sugar content veggies or fruits), weve been doing great.
We do eat plums, watermelon, and peaches, but these have few sugars for their volume. We dont eat sweet corn or peas any more, though, except on rare occasions.
Are you full Type II?
I’m convinced, but cannot prove, that corn sweeteners cause obesity.
We feed corn to livestock to fatten it for the slaughter.
For generations, a zaftig mid-western gal was described as being ‘corn fed’...
“...that corn is what LIVESTOCK ate.”
I had a Dutch housekeper at one time who said the same thing. I couldn’t convince her that cattle corn was vastly different from sweet corn. My Swedish mother and German in-laws looked down on spaghetti and wouldn’t touch it. They considered it plebeian.
My mother had flown over in the fifties to meet her new husband’s family. the crossingn had been fine, but all new for this young woman from Tuscany. The car and driver brought her up from the docks of New York with her new husband. The car drove in and the sounds of a pool party and bbq came from the back yard. She walked down the driveway and came face to face with a large crowd of people eating BBQ and roasted corn ears.
she was offered a plate of BBQ and Corn. She did not understand why these people were serving her pig food.
The releionships never got much better. LOL
Silly Eurotrash. They say the darnedest things.
In actually some corn products have far less carbs than wheat does. A generous serving of polenta, for example, has 32 carbs as opposed to a plate of pasta which has 54 carbs or more.
Sweet corn on cob. Butter. Salt. Summer treat.
Everything in moderation. Although I wouldn’t be too concerned about what the French have to say. They’re better than everyone else in their minds. You’d think the polite thing to do would be to just not eat it and keep your mouth shut...but they have issues in that department.
I’m going to have to share that with my co-worker who had Type II. She eats an ear of corn every day at lunch.
Livestock shouldn’t eat corn.
Makes sense, since Europe was only (relatively) recently introduced to corn so they don't have a long history with it.
For consistency sake, did they say you NEVER serve cereal grains to a human? Cause that's what they primarily feed their cattle in central and southern Europe. [1]. You know, the same grains they use to make BAGUETES.
To each their own I guess.
How do you know it wasn’t the butter?
