Bias has killed the ‘Gray Lady’ — and Dean Baquet fired the fatal shot
nypost ^ | August 24, 2019 | Michael Goodwin

A New York Times staff meeting transcript shows the rot of bias at the Times is far beyond the pale and there is no hope of recovery. The Gray Lady is dead, her homicide an inside job.

Ringleader is executive editor Dean Baquet, who fires the fatal shot into the credibility of his paper.

By giving reporters and editors license to try to stop Donald Trump from becoming president Baquet helped unleash the hatred that is tearing America apart. Never before has a single media institution played such a destructive role in the nation’s life.

The meeting shows Baquet is now determined to destroy the president by painting him as a racist.

Baquet’s idea for stopping Trump: "How do we cover America, that’s become so divided by Donald Trump? How do we write about race in a thoughtful way, something we haven’t done in a large way in a long time? That is the vision for coverage for the rest of the next two years.”

This isn’t journalism. It’s political activism aligned with Democrat talking points.

The meeting was held after the headline “Trump Urges Unity vs Racism” didn’t convey a sufficient dose of Trump hatred, so Baquet had it rewritten to criticize the president’s remarks after shootings in El Paso and Dayton.

Those asking questions, supposedly straight news reporters and editors, are unrestrained in demanding their partisan opinions dictate coverage.

One sees “racism and white supremacy being the foundation of this country.” Another asks, “What is the overall strategy here for getting us through this administration?”

Not once does Baquet say reporters should not be expressing partisan opinions.

Failure of anyone to recognize the approach violates historic standards of fairness and strict separation of news from opinion speaks volumes about how low the Times has sunk.

To be fair, there is no law mandating unbiased reporting. The NYT's reporting has always "suffered" from this truth. However, in many ways it was Drudge that broke the stranglehold the Times and other media outfits had on purveying "all the news that's fit to print."

The reality is that the NYT like most papers has lost lots of subscribers. In order to survive, they have identified their core audience, which clearly is "cosmopolitan Democrats" - a nearly hereditary professional caste of lawyers, journalists, publicists, and intellectuals, an increasingly hereditary caste of politicians, tight coteries of cultural movers-and-shakers richly sponsored by multinational corporations. That lot "trusts" the Times and will buy their product religiously, under the cognitive dissonance that the NYT is "unbiased." In that context, why would the Times risk alienating some hardcore socialist in Greenwich Village with an unbiased article or headline?

This chart, for me, says it all...you see where voters got their news. Those media outlets KNOW this breakdown, and will carry on with their bias. Per Pew:

Fox News dominated as main campaign news source for Trump voters; no single source as pronounced among Clinton voters

“Never before has a single media institution played such a destructive role in the nation’s life.”

Well, CBS’ Walter Cronkite singlehandedly caused the Vietnam Nam war to not be won at Tet, by lying to America about it. And the folks at home swallowed his lies, trusted him. After retirement from TV, Cronkite shed his fake ‘regular guy’ skin and went full left in print.

NYT has been leftist a long time. A recent thread here discussed its role in supporting Fidel Castro’s ‘revolution’ in Cuba (directed/funded by the communist USSR).

Thank you for reminding people that the NY Times has been a propaganda organ for decades.

Apologists for communists, since Stalin.

Never before has a single media institution played such a destructive role in the nation’s life.

That same media institution was - during wartime - publicly and openly overestimating enemy troop strength and revealing information about our equipment in...

...early 1862. The NYT has long been demonstrably incorrigible. Their destructive role goes back at least 157 years, but I might agree that they are now more openly against the United States of America - as established - than ever before.

Standards, ethics, objectivity and professionalism are dead at the NYT, but sadly the paper will continue on. It’s online subscriptions increased by something like 2 million after Trump’s election - and all those psycho subscribers want the hyper-partisanship and undiluted b.s. that the rag produces daily. Obvious and over-the-top propaganda is the NYT’s new business model (along with the rest of the legacy media).

Power corrupts. Reporters are no different than politicians. It’s astonishing how our founders recognized this human frailty and how modern “thinkers” fail to grasp it.

The New York Times is and always has been biased towards the left. The only thing that has changed is they are more open about their bias and their willingness to do anything to prevent President Trump from being re-elected.

So?

People who buy (and read) the New York Times are already convinced that President Trump should not be re-elected and will not vote for him. Again, So?

The only thing that the New York Times has accomplished is to be sure anyone that is not already a Anti-Trumper will not read nor respect anything printed in the Times. Their negative stories will not convince any current Trump supporter to switch side since for the most part those that support President Trump will never see an article printed in the the Times

Technology will be what kills the New York Times, not their bias.

So Dean is the “EXECUTIVE EDITOR” at the New York Times.

Is that sort of like being President of the Harvard Law Review? The people under you do all the writing and you get the big title?

“”Black privilege?””

Sure not difficult to figure out just what he finds so funny in all those pictures.

Why is what THEY are up to any different from what the Mexicans wish for? Take back the US!! No different from “it’s time for payback.”

Who said that? Valerie Jarrett?

A friend interviewed at a small town school in Central Texas a couple of weeks ago. It is a predominantly black school which has received a rating of "Needs Improvement". The superintendent, an "African-American" man, went to school there and has returned to "turn the school around". The two other individuals interviewing my friend were also "African-American".

He detailed his teaching philosophy, explained a couple of concepts of teaching language and correctly answered all questions on classroom control/discipline. At the end of the interview, the superintendent stated that he had an awesome concept of teaching and had demonstrated an understanding of everything needed and then pointed to his notebook and explained that he had marked down every time the man had said "black" and "Mexican" in the interview, three times "black" and six times "Mexican". My friend was stunned.

He is married to a native of Mexico and has been for over 30 years. His son dated an "African-American" woman at one time of which he approved. And yet, here is this man telling him he used the wrong terms in referring to people. The superintendent told him that if he used those terms in the classroom, he would cause a major issue and that the school would get calls demanding the teacher be fired.

He went on to point out as this was discussed that the friend used the term "black" when referring to the superintendent yet again. He asked my friend why he used that term again. The friend answered, "Because that's what you are." Another individual in the interview group also told my friend that there were teachers there who were "African-American" and if he called them black "they would fight you." The friend was not going to take the job (on wife's advice), but was called the next day and told he would not be offered the position.

This true story really needs to hit some major media outlet, but we don't know how to get it out. If a journalist is truly interested, (s)he can PM me on this forum.

My swan song as chapter leader was the 2006 demonstration against the Times for revealing the information that caused ISIS to go off the grid in their internal financial communications.

Yet I kept buying the paper until this year, when I found their new explicitness in sexual subjects to be totally objectionable.

I still pull the crossword puzzle out of the recycling bin but don’t bother reading anything else of their biased fury. The Trump Derangement had reached even the restaurant reviews.

According to Baquet’s colleagues, he prefers to be known as “Creole”, as opposed to African-American.

His brother, Terry, has stated, “Creole in New Orleans is black. We’re descendants of Haitians. We’re black; Creole is not a race.”
