Michael Mann, creator of the infamous global warming ‘hockey stick,’ loses lawsuit against climate skeptic, ordered to pay defendant’s costs
Michael Mann, a climatologist at Penn State University, is the creator of the “hockey stick graph” that appears to show global temperatures taking a noticeable swing upward in the era when humanity has been burning fossil fuels and dumping CO2 into the atmosphere. The graph was first published in 1998, prominently featured in the 2001 UN Climate Report, and formed part of Al Gore’s 2006 movie, An Inconvenient Truth.
The graph’s methodology and accuracy have been and continue to be hotly contested, but Mann has taken the tack of suing two of his most prominent critics for defamation or libel. One case, against Mark Steyn, is called by Steyn likely to end up in the Supreme Court. But another case, against Dr. Tim Ball was decided by the Supreme Court of British Columbia, with Mann’s case thrown out, and him ordered to pay the defendant’s legal costs, no doubt a tidy sum of money. News first broke in Wattsupwiththat, via an email Ball sent to Anthony Watt. Later, Principia-Scientific offered extensive details, including much background on the hockey stick.
The Canadian court issued it’s final ruling in favor of the Dismissal motion that was filed in May 2019 by Dr Tim Ball’s libel lawyers.
Not only did the court grant Ball’s application for dismissal of the nine-year, multi-million dollar lawsuit, it also took the additional step of awarding full legal costs to Ball. A detailed public statement from the world-renowned skeptical climatologist is expected in due course.

This is great news. Finally the push back against the tidal wave of climate propaganda is finally working.
They have no clue what effect APG Co2 is doing to the climate.

They have no clue. They do not want people to back load the numbers to backtrack the model because the result is absolute spaghetti. These mathematicians did a job on Mann and made him look like a fool. If the press was honest about it they would have admitted it. But, this, like everything else, is covered from a political angle rather than a factual one.
The most arrogant lie from the mouth of Al Gore is ‘the Science is Done’, because they means they have a 100% predictable scientific model that encompasses every cosmic particle, and photon from space, and every molecule of gases in the atmosphere to predict precisely what our climate will be. If they had that, then the IPCC would not have to redo its climate model 17 times.
They are doing brain surgery in the dark using gardening tools, and it’s not really a brain surgeon, it’s a plumber who is a socialist doing it, and the patient is the US taxpayer.

You’re kidding right? “Climate change” has always been 99% politics and 1% (if that) science. It’s the perfect vehicle to advance the leftist agenda.
You are spot on in your observations and comments. As an aside, the majority of university-based science these days is inaccurate and meaningless, and those who publish the most are generally those who are least restricted by scientific ethics. It’s a sick game, and the only way to reform it is to get rid of the current leadership in science at the government level.

The scientific BASIS of global warming claims, that BASIS has been turned out, dismissed as substandard, not serious science.
Without a legitimate scientific BASIS, politicians and their special interest financing continue to push a discredited science theory onto the general public. I say it is surprising because I never expected such a juggernaut of unscrupulous journalists to let it be boosted whereas old school journalists who know better tend ti let it go unchallenged as they are demoted and threatened.
What underlies the movement of this lie is the expansion of the propaganda unit which is a unit devoid of morals and ethics. Before in American history there was a semblance of reporting with integrity. What is different now is that the corporate news media is owned by only sic corporate entities and large shareholders buying stakes in these six entities are either foreign of foreign influenced.
In 2019 we have an awakening of the general public to the utter lack of credible reporting which is what enables false science to be used politically. With better reporting, the living rooms of America would dismiss global warming politics as a scarecrow tactic which it is. Its promoters are allowed to say anything and not be challenged inside these corporate news outlets.
The public is slow to see the truth behind the scam but are seeing it little by little.

You have to let go of the notion that they are “unscrupulous journalists” - they are neither, and the old school journalists are long gone. Journalism itself is dead.
The current crop are not unscrupulous but “true believers” and not journalists but “willful propagandists” marinated in 16 plus years in re-education camps that we used to call schools and colleges.
Journalism students today no longer care about reporting who, what, where, when and how, but about “making the world a better place” and that better world is defined by the leftist agenda instilled in them in their years in the re-education camps. Their job is to manufacture “narratives” to push their agenda, not to objectively report facts.
The left has done a superb job of gaining control of all the institutions - schools, media, entertainment, agencies, foundations, sports, churches... It’s truly a wonder that our side is still standing... we’re barely hanging by a thread.
