'If you want to have a moral debate, bring it on, baby'
A speaker at the Democratic National Committee summer meeting Friday said if free health care is labeled "socialism" by Republicans, then they should "acknowledge that the Bible must then promote socialism."
"When we embrace moral language, we must ask does our policy care for the least of these? Does it lift up those who are most marginalized and dejected in our society? Does it establish justice? That is the moral question," said Rev. William Barber, who has spoken at several DNC meetings. "If someone calls it socialism, then we must compel them to acknowledge that the Bible must then promote socialism, because Jesus offered free health care to everyone, and he never charged a leper a co-pay."
DNC chair Tom Perez and others in audience gave a standing ovation before Barber took a shot at Republicans, saying, "If you want to have a moral debate, bring it on, baby."
"The Bible says a nation will be judged by how it treats the poor and the sick and women and the immigrants," Barber said. "The Bible says that God makes it rain on the just and unjust alike. If you want to call caring for folks socialism, then the Constitution is a socialist document because it calls us to promote the general welfare and to establish justice."
Socialism sounds great when you’re hiding behind tax-free status.
Usually we say ignorance is bliss, but in this case ignorance is dangerous.

Good basic questions, ... yes Barber, let’s start with using the Bible to define marriage .... between one man and one woman. Or coveting thy neighbor’s property? How do demokrapic litmus tests like those square with the Bible? Except he and his ilk would never answer any of them because they don’t have to answer them. The Bible is being distorted, used for political purposes, used by the left as usual on the masses to help incrementally advance a leftist agenda. Yes, this is a time to respond to them with the old “separation of church and state”. And with pray for them, for our country.
When Jesus healed the man at the pool he told him to take up his bed and walk, when he healed the 10 lepers he told them to show themselves to the Priests—in other words, integrate back into society and get back to work. Show me one scripture where Jesus told Caesar to help the poor. Charity is not a government function—it’s a personal one.
I never noticed all of that last line from Randy Watson’s sole fan in the audience. Sorry about that.

Let me throw a real socialism “from the chapter and verse” argument (observation ?) “from the Bible”.
The only time “socialism” is mentioned in the Bible is ALSO the specific time that “socialism” IS ENFORCED BY the community (the government) ON TO the population BY DEATH to anyone who tries to avoid the government.

Yes. Sounds right. The “glories” of socialism as practiced by the earliest “church.” But that was NOT what Christ himself actually preached. He talked about the workers in the vineyard who got paid as the owner wanted, the servant who ruled fairly to the creditors to get favor with the manager, etc.
Jesus paid for you .. and you should be ashamed you had a debt you couldn’t pay and someone else had to pay it for you...and humble that someone that didn’t have to ..did.
In Socialism..you demand and expect somone to pay for you.. that goverment enforce it.. in Socialism Jesus is the villain.. the rich kid who dad own everthing....the hero in a Socialist reading of the bible is Pontius Pilate ..a governor who made the evil rich pay your bills
