They likely will do it because of the effect of the tariffs on their selling of product.

I love him, but far as I know, the President cant order companies around like that. No president can because we are not a dictatorship. Maybe Im wrong and someone can point to the law that enables a president to do this.
He can spend hours everyday on twitter and say whatever he wants, and he can order them to, but none of them are obligated to do a thing about it.
It's unfortunate that those around him don't explain the powers and limitations on power that the President has, because they make Trump look foolish, but he can still hang out on twitter and say whatever he wants.
If you look at Trump's biggest gaffes, it feels like it always comes back to his legal advisors have failed in explaining the limits on his power.
There will be idiots that think Trump can order companies around like that, and those idiots would have lost their minds if Obama tried the same thing, but eventually they'll snap out of it and realize, as you said, that such power = dictatorship.

President Trump sure does shake the bushes. All sorts of disaffected, weaklings are flushed out. I’m almost running out of popcorn. Fortunately, I have a good store of smooth bourbon to offset that disappointment.

If Obama had stood up to Chinese mercantilism I would have supported him 1000%.

It's going to fall to us as consumers to enforce these orders when we make shopping decisions.
Let us know how that goes, because it's worked so well in the past.
This isn't necessarily directed at you, but here's the problem: I've had friends and family members swear off foreign-made goods. I go through whatever room we are in , such as their living room, home office, dining room/kitchen, and I point out all of the things made overseas. TVs, lamps, wall clocks, even furniture, small appliances, computers, phones, etc.
I then tell them "today Is Friday. You now care about where the stuff you buy is made. But you didn't care yesterday. And the thousands of days prior to today. So I don't believe you, because if you truly cared, your room or your house wouldn't be full of foreign-made goods.
You are only caring right now, because somebody told you to care, whether that was some empty talking head on TV or some politician desperately trying to get you to vote for them."
And if you want to call me a hypocrite, that's fine, I am one. But in my main house, I have over the years tried to buy locally, or at least within the States, and that has been mostly furniture and clothes.
But my son and his family, they are going to do Ikea for furniture going by their registry, or Target or whatever, and that's because it's what they can afford. My youngest daughter as well - my oldest is stationed in Europe, so it's a moot point.
Sorry, that's going to upset some folks, but either you are already committed to this endeavor, and you have been for years, or you're not. Just because Donald Trump dropped a tweet does not instantly make you a "BUY AMERICAN" fan. You should have been a "BUY AMERICAN" fan long before Trump's little tweets today, but obviously there's not enough Americans willing to give up cheap stuff, either because they can't, or because they don't care.

>>>The tide is turning Fully Agree! I for one will look at any lable to determine its point of origin & avoid any products/services Made in China. Secondly, US companies should be shamed for conducting business with a communist government & abhorrent labor pay/conditions.
To: JonPreston
Aside from their politician shenanigans and wrongdoing, China hasn’t stolen from the U.S. in the marketplace. THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT has stolen from American industry, business, and individuals and now these tariffs are again taking from the American consumer.
The REAL culprit here is the 80%+ unconstitutional federal government.

Agreed ........ but much must be explained to the American public about China!

I can't even see Trump's Tweets on my computer but If you're an American company you just try and do business with IRAN and see how far that gets you.. Sheesh.

I don’t buy anything that is made in China. It’s difficult sometimes and sometimes you just have to go without.

You are not wrong and he is out of line for this order. Most of what he said is correct but he was foolish in even thinking he can order companies to do what he has said. It looks pretty unhinged to me. I wish he had not done this.
I voted FOR him and not against the opponent the last election. This was the first time in my life I ever actually voted FOR someone in nearly 40 years of voting.
This one action alone is shifting my vote from FOR Trump to AGAINST the opposition.

Uhhhh, I don't think you realize just how EVIL China is. The United States is chalk FULL of Chinese SPIES who are ripping off our trade secrets while getting PAID to do so by American companies and ALSO China who buys these SPIES their big beautiful houses in safe neighborhoods and expensive luxury cars and other goods and toys. Wealthy Chinese citizens coming to America to buy our property? NO! MOST of them are being BANKROLLED by the Chinese government! CHINA WOULD NEVER ALLOW THEIR SO-CALLED WEALTHY CITIZENS TO LEAVE CHINA
UNLESS THERE WAS SOMETHING IN IT FOR CHINA! How's THAT for a sentence!

American companies have had a year or more to consider moving operations from China. Those that have not responded should have their CEO’s looking for space in a San Francisco homeless shelter.
