At least 8 jail workers knew Jeffrey Epstein shouldn’t have been left alone in cell

At least eight jail staffers were aware that strict instructions had been given not to leave Jeffrey Epstein alone in his cell — but the order apparently was ignored in the 24 hours before he hanged himself, according to a report.

Investigators looking into the apparent failure to follow instructions were shocked that so many Federal Bureau of Prisons staffers — including supervisors and managers — were aware of the directive, people familiar with the matter told the Washington Post.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, declined to identify the eight staffers.

Investigators suspect that at least some of these staffers also knew that the accused sex trafficker had been left alone in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center before he died — and they are seeking to determine the extent of the knowledge, the sources told the paper.

But they cautioned that the apparent failure to follow instructions does not necessarily rise to the level of criminal conduct — and could be the result of bureaucratic incompetence.

Robert Hood, a former warden at the federal supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, called the matter “perplexing.”

“If people were given instructions that Epstein should not be left alone, I don’t understand how they were not followed,” Hood, a former chief of internal affairs for the Bureau of Prisons, told the paper.

Hood said it was disturbing that officials might have thought they were putting Epstein on a less intensive form of suicide watch.

“You’re either on suicide watch or you’re not. If you have any concern at all, you maintain the suicide watch,” he said.

Epstein knew his house of cards was falling around his feet regardless of his attorney efforts he was not going to get off without doing a prison tern....and that he wouldn’t do for obvious reasons. Better to go down his own way so I believe he paid the guards to look the other way.....

“irregularities”, “perplexing”, “operational deficiencies”, “apparent failure to follow instructions”

We went from appalled and swearing to get to the bottom of the corruption, to this pablum, in just a few days.

Some functionaries in the system will be reassigned and that will be the end of it. Nothing more to see here, move along.

DC is on vacation and there is little to fill up the news these days. One would think the media would drive a story of this status right to the headlines each and every day. Ha, it is now become a magic act of diversion led by the usual anti Trump banter. Something about some lez singer and her trysts. Something about a hurricane season that so far has produced nothing of interest or alarm in actuality.

I'm beginning to think the staff of the NY Post actually believes Epstein killed himself.

8 jail staffers and only 200 million Americans.

I believe he killed himself....be it at his own hand or help. The guy wasn't about to subject himself to prison or torture.

On that picture of him on the gurney his skin pallor looked pretty good for a dead guy.

Let me correct that headline...

At least eight jail staffers were aware that strict instructions had been given not to leave Jeffrey Epstein alone in his cell — but the order apparently was ignored in the 24 hours before “he hanged himself?”, according to a report.

I kinda agree with you. Even if he was going to talk, and spill a lot...he had to do a minimum of a year in prison. He wasn’t capable of handling that.

“PILES OF CASH!!!”

Well, nobody ever gets punished, so you might as well take the money and run. If you won’t go along with the corruption, the next guy will and he’ll get the payday instead. You’ll probably just get your career ruined if you do the right thing.

Or maybe not . . .
