Progressive Democrats Renounce Their Former Selves
National Review ^ | August 20 2019 | VICTOR DAVIS HANSON

Posted on 08/21/2019 11:19:38 PM PDT by knighthawk

Not long ago, the current presidential contenders opposed open borders, sanctuary cities, and federal funding for abortion. Now they can’t move left far and fast enough.

All politicians are “flexible.” If they are in politics long enough, many reinvent themselves ideologically several times over — given the perceived volatile mood of 51 percent of their constituency.

But rarely have we seen an entire primary field of candidates scrambling to renounce all their past identities and agendas — and to do so unapologetically, abruptly, and vehemently.

The only consistent thing is their insatiable quest for power.

The END does justify the MEANS for progressives.

“Truth” is what they say it is and facts do not matter.

I saw democrats and read "Democrats renounce former slaves".

I'm not so sure. :)

I agree, but this was inevitable in an age where people are expected to be woke “retroactively”. I always thought “Friends” was a very liberal TV show (and it certainly was), but it completely fails today’s “woke” test. When Obama himself is not sufficiently woke, then anyone over 20 or 25 years of age is certain to have problems with the leftist radicals of today. Biden’s support of certain laws, Harris’ locking up of drug offenders - all “normal” at the time, now regarded as crimes against humanity by the crazies.

“Not long ago, the current presidential contenders opposed open borders, sanctuary cities, and federal funding for abortion. Now they can’t move left far and fast enough.”

For a guy who has degrees in classical history, Hanson is very naive.

Political Rule Number One: All Marxocrats are liars! Always have been; always will be.

Because they change their positions so easily and radically you can deduce that they have no bedrock principles. You can’t really know what is behind the mask.

You can only trust that they will say or do anything they believe will benefit themselves.

A nice catch, and thanks for posting. While the sight of plastic people writhing to encompass as many facets of identity politics as possible is highly amusing we would be overly hopeful if we didn't think that even after the inevitable swing to the right for the general election the chosen candidate wouldn't take with him or her a staff of believers and a collection of donors who are intent on the most radical implementations of their platform. Don't pay too much credence to that swing to the right, in other words, because it's just as phony as any of their other swings.

Nevertheless, the list VDH presents us is astonishing in its completeness. Only Bernie comes through more or less unscathed, a function of going crazy early and sticking to it. I'm not sure it's much of an improvement. The bottom line on all of these characters is that if they'll do that, they'll do anything.
