The Trump administration implemented new policies on Wednesday in an effort to end the "catch-and-release" of family units entering the country illegally or applying for asylum.
In the past, the Department of Homeland Security has only been able to detain and process families together for 20-days. After that, they've been released into the United States and become unlikely to show up for immigration court dates months or years later. That practice is changing and DHS will now hold family units together, without separating children from parents, until their immigration hearing and full processing.
"Large numbers of alien families are entering illegally across the southern border, hoping that they will be released into the interior rather than detained during their removal proceedings. Promulgating this rule and seeking termination of the FSA (Flores Settlement Agreement) are important steps towards an immigration system that is humane and operates consistently with the intent of Congress," DHS released in a statement. "The requirements that help ensure that all alien children (both accompanied minors and unaccompanied alien children) in the Government’s custody are treated with dignity, respect, and special concern for their particular vulnerability as minors."
Acting DHS Secretary Kevin McAleenan is stressing the new policies will keep families together. The Trump administration has been harshly criticized by Democrats for separating children from "parents," who are often adults posing as family," in order to detain them past the 20 day maximum.
“Today, the government has issued a critical rule that will permit the Department of Homeland Security to appropriately hold families together and improve the integrity of the immigration system,” McAleenan said. “This rule allows the federal government to enforce immigration laws as passed by Congress and ensures that all children in U.S. government custody are treated with dignity, respect, and special concern for their particular vulnerability.”
McAleenan also discussed the move on Fox News earlier today.

Democrats are already reacting to the move, calling it "disgraceful."
This is disgraceful. https://t.co/2PmxnMW7D6— The Democrats (@TheDemocrats) August 21, 2019
3 squares and decent accommodation. Sounds like a good vacation for a poor family.
They’ve been demanding that the ‘separation’ be stopped, so I expect cheers and plaudits from the left on this one. /s
In the past, the Department of Homeland Security has only been able to detain and process families together for 20-days...
And then released into the streets.
That there is a country that WANTS TO DIE.
And when the heck did I start using “that there”?
Is hat a southern thing I picked up on here?
Using it more and more and don’t want to “CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE” :)
How close to the border are the many ‘mothballed’ military bases we have built thru the years?
Use those facilities to HOLD those INVADERS-—ofall ages.
fuggetaboutit I’m thinking a drive south maybe I can cross and get 3 hots and a cot. Maybe they’ll put me up in the Hilton. Oh sheet all my kids are grown. Ah I’ll just pick one up in Mexico and re-enter.

And all the snacks they want. This new rule will certainly be challenged and will more than likely eventually be decided by SCOTUS. I think Trump et al will prevail, but I’m guessing enforcing of the new rule will be delayed by legal challenges.
Our president does not give up.
LOL

Yep, that there is a Southern thing, similar to the way y’all is a Southern thing.
It is not culturally inappropriate at all, you have friends in the South.
I support the catch-and-release into the Pelosi’s family compound and if released, immediately jailed and deported into Greenland.
I WAS JOKING about cultural appropriation!!
I’d be on the WRONG board if I wasn’t??
I’ll probably get some looks using it at parties but I’d imagine a southerner would get some looks if he/she said “fuggedaboutit” :)
Post number two is an excellent point. We’re essentially building vacation destinations for these people.
....by eliminating the "Catch" portion of it.
.
i’m lily white Irish, ya think it will fly. “Honest officer it’s my kid”
lol
You like reading books and watching shows about The Westies??
Others like watching Mafia movies and reading mafia books.
I find the fact that a dozen guys controlled the ENTIRE west side of that area amazing.
Trump should open hotels and really make the libs heads explode!
DP is welcome here in Texas any time, the only problem is he’ll have to lose the gumba New York City accent
I am not without compassion for most of these people. I will say that my blood boils because we are neglecting Americans and the left is what caused all of this. They are pure f-ing evil.
Yet liberals will complain that the conditions are inhumane and demand they be released. The solution is to declare that facilities are at their maximum capacity and send all new arrivals right back home.
