Fresh from the same Dept. of Energy and EPA that gave us:toilets that dont flush; light bulbs that dont light; dishwashers that dont wash; plant-based fuel that burns like carrots; and paper straws that dissolve in liquid . Now we get this:
[ ] Energy Star, the federal program from the DOE and the Environmental Protection Agency, said the coolest you should keep your home is 78 degrees when youre home.
When youre at work or away, the program recommends setting it at 85 degrees. When youre sleeping, Energy Star said to set the thermostat at 82 degrees. (link)
Setting the thermostat at 82° at night is well recognized grounds for divorce. I swear these administrative state progressives are going to have us force-fed sustainable algae cakes if this keeps up.
Some journalist-type person published these new cooling standards on twitter, and the responses are quite funny.
I see weve decided to give up on sleeping. Or going home for that matter. Or having pets that arent native to the rain forest. (link)
Ive already embraced a dying Earth, so I keep my central air between 67-72 at all times. (link)
Id be laying there making a giant sweat angel in my bed (link)
New report shows these as the recommended temps for smelling like an onion. (link)
I have no idea how my ancestors survived deserts. If the thermostat in my house showed a number that started with an 8 I would call the police (link)

Too cold for me. I hate cold weather.
I’d be shocked if a single person involved in this commission or report slept in a house at 82 degrees.
Science has recently indicated that we sleep best at 68 degrees.
Too cold for me. I hate cold weather. ...
Got down to 45 in my bedroom when it got to 30 below outside and I did not build a big enough fire.
I've lived in really cold climates before when I didn't have a choice (military) but never again. Life it too short.
I've cut my last piece of firewood.
F That Noise!
Now that's "Thinking Outside the Box", LOL!
I wouldn’t be bragging about how cold it is ...
OH, I thought I was complaining.
Nothing special. Usually Cree, or whatever the private labels are at Lowes and HD. We have some Sylvania floods outside. Eight replacements in one year is way, way outside the norm. I don’t know what would cause that many to fail. Maybe there’s something wrong with your power supply. (Just guessing; I’m not an expert about this). Or maybe you bought them all at once and it was a defective or damaged batch. Dunno.
Let’s poll the bureaucrats and dems to see if THEY adhere to these ‘recommendations’.
Roger that. :-)
#13 ‘Environmental Warrior’ Mayor Bloomberg cools his SUV with a wall unit AC

When I moved to York (PA) 29yrs ago, this area was semi-rural; now the “city-creep” is taking its toll and moving outward in all directions. I hate cities, too.
Government in some way, shape, or form is always attempting to control your life by either suggesting or legislating.
To the Government I say "SCREW YOU!"
“Bureaucrap! “

I remember when Obama was shown to be keeping the White House Residential/Oval Office areas very toasty in the Winter, all the while he was telling the American public they needed to keep the thermostats set low.
He got upset and said he came from a warmer climate and thus had to keep himself warmer.
I was surprised that he was challenged about the temp and actually stunned he told how he REALLY felt he was so much better than others, so early on in his presidency.
I remember that - it was one of the coldest DC winters we'd had in years and all the pics of the wookie showed her strutting around the white house with bare arms.
Yes. the old, “I’m from the government and I’m here to help you” (whether you like it or not)
At one point I traveled 11 states, for 35 years I was in outside sales, sales management and/or store planning. I’ve been to many large cities. Knew a number of them well. I’ll take flyover country over that every time.
They don’t intend to. They are special. Head Shake.
It is not my “power supply”. I know about electronics. It is crappy design of AC to DC power supply. They run hot from the beginning. So forget the “savings” promised. ChiCom bulbs. I bought most of them at HEB. I’ve since stopped buying them there.
