Fresh from the same Dept. of Energy and EPA that gave us:toilets that dont flush; light bulbs that dont light; dishwashers that dont wash; plant-based fuel that burns like carrots; and paper straws that dissolve in liquid . Now we get this:
[ ] Energy Star, the federal program from the DOE and the Environmental Protection Agency, said the coolest you should keep your home is 78 degrees when youre home.
When youre at work or away, the program recommends setting it at 85 degrees. When youre sleeping, Energy Star said to set the thermostat at 82 degrees. (link)
Setting the thermostat at 82° at night is well recognized grounds for divorce. I swear these administrative state progressives are going to have us force-fed sustainable algae cakes if this keeps up.
Some journalist-type person published these new cooling standards on twitter, and the responses are quite funny.
I see weve decided to give up on sleeping. Or going home for that matter. Or having pets that arent native to the rain forest. (link)
Ive already embraced a dying Earth, so I keep my central air between 67-72 at all times. (link)
Id be laying there making a giant sweat angel in my bed (link)
New report shows these as the recommended temps for smelling like an onion. (link)
I have no idea how my ancestors survived deserts. If the thermostat in my house showed a number that started with an 8 I would call the police (link)

There was an airline commercial that had people around a white piano drinking champagne in first class and sullen people in ragged coats around a pot could b coach. It was a joke at the time.
Just remembered that when considering this idea.
Dad bought a swamp cooler 10 years after he dragged us kicking and screaming from the Rocky Mountains to the hotter than hell Ozarks. It was cool but made everything in the house damp and moldy.
If you drop off from the Ozarks into the Arkansas River valley around Ft Smith, it gets ten degrees hotter, and 10% more humidity.
Hearts? Do they really still have one? Guess they do, they are still breathing. But the real question is, do they have a brain? The answer is “not much of one”.
I hate cities. Never expect to live in one.
I see I will be standing in front of an open fridge again.
We live in Phoenix, summer temperatures are consistently above 105 degrees, often over 110 degrees.
When were home during the day, the thermostat is on 74 degrees. At night the thermostat is on 73 degrees. We also have box fans going so we dont have to set the thermostat any lower.
The EPA can scr*w itself.
Bite me. 78 during the day and 70 and night. I don’t mind warm but like to sleep in cool. So so so sick of Big Guv telling me what to eat, believe, think, etc. etc.
Lol. Im on a new iPad.
But then theyd have all these vacancies at the Gulags. Who would fill them?
DC needs to be shut down. They are out of control.
What part of TX?
I think the way they figure 13 years is if its used for a total of 2 minutes every day. Its such a scam.
We’re in southern Oregon smack dab in the middle of the Rogue valley with our front porch overlooking the Rogue river. With the temps in the high 90’s/100’s during the day, our air comes on at 74. At dusk, a breeze comes up the valley bringing cooler air. So at night, we keep the porch door open with a big fan which keeps our place in the low 60’s.
No kidding. Whatever it is I will be more comfortable than I am now. My husband will be miserable. He carries a wool sweater with him now when we visit certain restaurants he knows will be cool.
Sorry. I’ll do it my way.
BTW, cooler temperatures are better for sleeping.
Neither does the Kaiser.
Nothing worse than a bossy girlfriend, wife, or government. Divorce is imminent if this behavior continues.
We went all-LED when we moved two years ago. The light quality is better, waste heat is negligible, and the electric bill savings is $50-$75 per month, so we’ve already recovered the entire cost. Haven’t had to change one yet.
...and Gabardine!
I don't mind being warm. Being cold is another story.
