CIA fuels Hong Kong riots – report
Global Times via Manila Times ^ | 08/19/2019

A Central Intelligence Agency (CIA)-backed American foundation has been colluding with the heads of the recent Hong Kong riots with financial and strategic support, actions that Chinese experts said show the US’ intention of “Americanization” which is endangering Hong Kong.

Sentaku, a Japanese monthly magazine, revealed in August how the foreign forces represented by the US, manipulate the Hong Kong chaos.

The magazine said that Hong Kong extremists received significant funding from the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), which it called “a CIA soft-power cutout that has played a critical role in innumerable US regime-change operations.”

Under the Reagan administration in 1983, the NED was founded to “support democracy in other countries.”

The NED’s website shows that it granted $155,000 to the Solidarity Center and $200,000 to National Democratic Institute (NDI) for International Affairs for work in Hong Kong and $90,000 to the Hong Kong Justice Center in 2018. NDI received $650,000 from 2016 to 2017, and SC received $459,865 from 2015 to 2017.

“US foundations like the NED have been promoting ‘Americanization’ around the world,” Li Haidong, a professor at the China Foreign Affairs University’s Institute of International Relations in Beijing, told the Global Times.

According to Li, the foundation conducts “transformation” in various regions around the world tangibly and intangibly, but in fact it is a behind the scenes player for color revolutions. It is also the US’ way of violating the internal affairs of other countries.

“This is a tradition of US diplomacy,” Li noted. “The US does not even try to cover its goal of promoting ‘Americanized’ governance, which has now been proven a failure and is ridiculous.”

Western forces have been directly or indirectly involved in the Hong Kong riots, Shi Yinhong, director of Renmin University of China’s Center for American Studies in Beijing, told the Global Times on Sunday.

He noted that the interference also includes media promotion, which aims to encourage the protests to follow the desired direction. “The intention is obvious — to endanger Hong Kong and endanger China.”

Leung Chun-ying, former chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, in 2014 warned that foreign forces had been involved in Hong Kong affairs, including the Occupy Central movement.

“CIA fuels Hong Kong riots”

TOTAL BS. How do I know? Easy, if our CIA were involved, the protesters wouldn’t have American Flags, they’d have EU flags, or worse.

RE: Global Times is Chinese Communist Party. Why post it?

So that we will know what the opposition is thinking and propagandizing.

Now, whether this is true or not, is another story.

I normally don’t like the CIA causing insurrection in a foreign nation - blowback is no joke - but since China literally configured its existence around screwing us over, in this particular case I’ll call it well-deserved.

Why would the CIA do that? To what end?

“Why would the CIA do that? To what end?”

Well, they were part of the plot to UNDERMINE the 2016 US election (against Trump)...which is about as anti-US as one can get.

Hard to see them cleaning up from that, especially without anyone charged, yet.

This is the class of propaganda as the “Russian’s Hacking 2016 Election” bullshit.

NED gives out $200K per year, and with that amount, they are able to mobilize 2 million HK people to come out and protest on June 16.

No different from the stories of some Russian hacker group’s $100K of Facebook ads managed to swing the election to Trump.

Yeah, and the real tip-off was no anti-Trump signs, saying step down now.

“Yeah, and the real tip-off was no anti-Trump signs, saying step down now.”

Yep, clears the CIA. But then who is actually backing this?

It’s hard to know for sure if the CIA is involved, but involvement in the “internal” affairs of foreign countries is fairly standard for just about every country on earth. Because those “internal” affairs also determine whether that nation is friendly or hostile. Sun Yat-sen, the leader of the band of revolutionaries that toppled the Last Emperor, received foreign assistance in kind that far exceeded the pittance rendered by the NED. Chiang Kai-shek was assisted in his campaign against the Communists by Germany and the Soviet Union, even as the Soviets hedged their bets by also funding the Communists.

"Yep, clears the CIA. But then who is actually backing this?"

Anyone from the US State Dept. passing out cookies to the protesters?

Hong Kong is following the usual color revolution script whether it's been studied and the method copied or is being run by the people who ran Georgia, Egypt, Ukraine, etc. People who don't give a rats butt about the US any more than the Chinese do.

I bet a lot of people in the CIA would get involved just to deliberately get some of those helping them identified thereby embarrassing Trump making it likely the Chinese will would get so pissed they'll never make a deal with him.

I seriously doubt that John Brennan had any shortage of pals at the CIA who have steam coming out of their ears over failing to get rid of Trump and will take any opportunity to make problems for him.

Yep! If our CIA were involved, the protesters wouldn’t have American Flags, they’d have EU, CA, NY, MA, CT, RI, NJ, or OR flags, or worse... There would be flags from all, or any, of these foreign countries being waved...

I don’t think we are driving the protest in Hong Kong, and I don’t think anyone else is either.

I think the people of Hong Kong, are genuinely worked up about things, all on their own.

South China has traditionally been an alternative power base in China.

They are genuinely worked up, I believe.

Now I admit, China has a HUGE power base, and Hong Kong has a relatively small one.

But I think they are genuinely worked up about things, all on their own.

They were told, they would have freedom for 50 years.

50 years.

I am not so sure it needs that sort of backing. For the Kongians it is existential. Without effective outside pressure, though, it will be a turkey shoot for the PLA.
