The people of Hong Kong scored a huge victory on Sunday June 16, when nearly 2 million of them turned out on a Sunday to peacefully show opposition to the Extradition Bill. After that display, the HK Government quickly declared the bill “dead.”
I am not in favor of smaller groups of agitators (or agent provocateurs?) battling police, and shutting down the subway, airports, cross-harbor tunnels, Central/downtown etc... these are the economic life-blood of HK and will only make average people suffer, and splits the public support for the democracy movement. It plays right into Chinese propaganda.
Large, peaceful, weekend protests like this scare the Communists more than anything.
Better be wearing a disguise if you’re marching. The protesters at Tienanmen Square were photographed and then quietly disappeared in the following months.
This is a huge story and may in fact be the most important story of this year. I can’t see how this ends well. If China sends in the troops then what will the rest of the world do including America?
