The reaction to President Trump's sudden interest in buying Greenland from Denmark has been mostly one of derision. And Denmark, which owns the territory, appears to oppose any sale.
But don't laugh an American purchase of Greenland could represent an extraordinary deal in terms of America's national security, economic interests, and environmental protection.
As much as it might seem out of the blue, U.S. acquisition of Greenland is not at all a strange or irrational idea. Following Denmark's fall to Nazi Germany in 1940, American forces defended Greenland. The roots of American-Greenland comradeship are thus old and formal. In 1946, one Harry S. Truman even attempted to purchase Greenland for $100 million. Was Truman crazy? On the contrary, he was the president who ended a global war and set America on its ultimate course to defeat the Soviet Union.

Save some Danish blondes from Islamic culture. Buy Greenland.
Why are people like you still persisting on making so many dumb posts about P.R.! are you aware that, Puerto Rico is worth many times what a Greenland or even a Denmark are worth? Besides, P.R. didn’t just get to being in such a miserable state on its own. The politicians on the mainland had a huge hand in turning P.R. into, mostly, a dependent state. P.R. is not the only part of the U.S. suffering from dumb socialist ideals and deals, so, should we be giving back those other areas to Mexico or France or the UK?
BTW, your posts are not being read by just the white community here. You are not posting in a vacuum, and there are people of many races and ethnicities and religions here. I happen to have been born in P.R., and posts such as yours are offensive and unhelpful when you try to convince people that there are no racists or bigots in FR. Get a clue already!
With all the global warming, Greenland would become the new Hawaii.
RARE EARTH MINERALS.... China is trying to scoop up mineral rights on Greenland! They already have a joint venture in place! If we don’t get on the stick we’ll be boxed out. https://www.proactiveinvestors.co.uk/companies/news/213111/greenland-minerals-largest-shareholder-forms-jv-in-china-to-import-radioactive-rare-earths-213111.html
“Why are there so many dummies in FR?”
Apparently there are some who lack a sense of humor as well.
Great idea!!! If Trump can pull off THAT deal it would be a win win win win...
Puerto Rican is a race!? I did not know that!
“Except countries arent really for sale anymore.”
Actually, it’s my understanding that ALL of Greenland is owned by the Danish government; its residents are tenants without ownership, so it could be done. I think it would be a great move if the price is feasible. Strategically advantageous, and has tremendous resource potential, though with costs attached. It would give the United States a Frontier again; and that’s what we thrive on.
Wasn’t Seward laughed at, and President Andrew Johnson, when they made the deal to buy Alaska? It was a good deal. Greenland could be, too.
I have a feeling PDJT is using this Greenland thing as a squirrel for the media to chase while he accomplishes things.
I decided to play, “From Greenland’s Icy Mountains” for offertory in church today. It seemed appropriate for some reason.
If we offered every adult 18 years of age or older $1 million, it would only cost us $42 billion.
That would be an amazing deal.
They would all be wealthy and citizens of the most powerful nation on earth.
The current population is 56 thousand, including children.
American citizenship isn’t that great, especially if you don’t live in US. It is the only citizenship afaik that demands you pay income tax even if you live in another country, which is why many dual nationals renounce it. Then there is the fact that Americans are hated in many countries and having a US passport is like a red rag to a bull to some often very dangerous people in some parts of the world (same with a British passport, which is why a lot of British citizens who are also entitled to Irish passports prefer to travel on the latter.
Looks like we already are if a joint venture has already been formed.

It would have to be a multi-year process to work everything out.
We should start sponsoring some cultural exchange programs, sending some Alaskan Inuit people to Greenland to perform cultural shows, and talk up the benefits of US citizenship.
Maybe get an educational media campaign going in Greenland, broadcast Voice of America, sponsor some school trips, and stuff like that.
