“WE KNOW this wasn’t going to be his last or worst crime.”

OMG, this is really over wrought. I know this guy stole one can of beer. I really would not care if this guy stole a beer every day of his life, I don’t think the penalty for that is ever death. Maybe - MAYBE this random shoplifting beer guy would have gone on to commit worse crimes, but quite frankly he’d have a way to go before he got to one for which death is the penalty.

No, shoplifting is not OK, and I worked in retail and I know what a SERIOUS problem theft is, but you don’t shoot somebody in the back because they stole some merchandise from your store.

Like you, I also worked in retail. Shoplifting was a big problem.

But we were told to never, ever touch a shoplifter, never chase after them, etc. We would call the store detectives, and they photographed people and called the police.

I’m speculating that the dude probably raged as a result of many thefts over a period of time, and this kid probably caught him on the exact wrong day.

Definitely not a justifiable killing. He’s gonna have to do time, and the kid ain’t coming back. Very sad.

THIS is an experiment in what happens during sleep.

I am surprised I agreed with him being shot in this situation.

This could be most any kid in America and even if it’s habitual one cannot plus someone over it as they are running away.

I do not agree with it after getting some sleep.

Maybe the mind resets a little more closely to who your are while you sleep.

I dunno :)

This is why we have laws against vigilantism. People taking the law into their own hands. The thief was punished for his act by a vigilante. The vigilante was punished for his by the law.

There are two good reasons not to break the law: one for what the law will do if it catches you. Another for what the vigilante will do if one catches you. The thief may have considered the first but probably not the second.

I worked in retailing and believe me, customers shoplifting was bad, but when (I was coming into work at 3 pm that day) you see someone walking calmly out the door with a $500 computer (an IBM desktop) and you held the door open, you feel like a fool. I told the shoplifter to enjoy it.

Of course, when your receiving manager was sending 25% of computers out the back door, you have a big problem. That is why OfficeMax is just a shadow of itself.
