Over the past two months, the world has seen the people of Hong Kong bravely stand up to the growing threat of totalitarianism.
What began as a protest against a bill that would allow prisoners to be extradited to mainland China has evolved into a movement to demand that the Hong Kong government (largely now controlled by Chinas Communist Party) adhere to the promises of freedom and autonomy it made when Hong Kong was returned to China in 1997.
Protesters have flooded the streets since June despite the threat of being arrested, smothered with tear gas, pelted with rubber bullets or attacked by masked thugs with batons.
While Chinese tanks have lined up along the border of Hong Kong and mainland China, protesters have waved the American flag and sung the American national anthem. The protesters show no signs of wavering and the outcome remains in doubt.
But one thing is certain: The United States and the free world are watching.
Chinese leaders must know there will be consequences if the freedoms promised to the people of Hong Kong are eradicated by a Communist dictatorship. This is more than a protest about a proposed new law. It is about protecting the people of Hong Kong from tyranny and despotism and keeping a growing totalitarian power at bay.
Importantly, this effort by the Chinese Communist Party to meddle in Hong Kongs affairs is just one part of the regimes plans to expand its power. As I discuss in my upcoming book, "Trump vs. China," the Chinese Communist Party is taking actions across the globe that are threatening American interests, security and values.
To successfully counter this threat, a unified American response is critical. I am glad to see our leaders are currently in agreement.

Yeah. England let them go let England take care of it. Fighting with China is sure to give us WWIII.
Indeed!...
Hey Newt! How about you go there and stand in the streets of Hong Kong?
Somehow I don’t expect that.
Looks to me like the people of Hong Kong need about 300 million guns to combat the Communists that Margaret Thatcher apparently turned them over to.
Behold, one of the many purposes of the Second Amendment.
Learn.
Please don’t. We are fighting on too many fronts already.

And as long as youre raising this issue, perhaps you can explain why China and its totalitarian regime enjoyed such favorable trade status with the U.S. during your entire tenure as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
It’s hopeless Newtster.
Pick your fights wisely
I thought Trump’s approach of calling on China’s leader and saying how easy it would be to sit down and reach a reasonable agreement was the correct approach.
God Bless Hong Kong.
Taking notes on modern methods to combat Communists.
For. Today.
We should support them, but let’s not meddle in it....
I’m almost speechless. Perhaps I am jumping to conclusions. I hope so.
Why?
How much blood and gold would it cost?
Even if we did, hasn’t WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam, and the Gulf illustrated that going to war for another nation is a thankless task.
I am in favor of a strong military and a large military budget for defense. I am no longer in favor of sending our young men to die for people who in the end will not appreciate our sacrifice.
Stand and do what ? how about some specifics on how we should confront a nation on how they treat part of their nation. Effin globalist are aways full of empty slogans and full of $hit.
Hong Kongers are looking to us as an example. We’re too busy fighting with each other to encourage those in Hong Kong to fight for their freedom.
I, personally, support them. Our founders fought for the same not so long ago, though they had the benefit of having weaponry comparable to the British, while Hong Kong does not.
I understand why our government doesn’t want to speak on the matter and risk combat with China. However, we can still encourage them as individual Americans. They’re waving our flag for goodness’ sake, so they deserve some moral support. They’re going to need it.
