AG candidate Daniel Cameron on racial slur: ‘I’ve been called worse’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - A Louisville attorney is now being called out nationally after she made a racial comment about GOP Kentucky Attorney General candidate Daniel Cameron.

Attorney Dawn Elliott, who works family law and civil rights cases, once part of a radio show on WLOU 1350. She made the comment about Cameron during a recent interview with the Courier Journal.

She said Cameron needs to “stop eating the coon flakes the White House is serving.”

Wednesday, she told WAVE 3 News she still has the same opinion of Cameron and doesn’t understand why her statement has become such a big deal.

“As African Americans, we need to be able to vote however we see fit,” Cameron told WAVE 3 News.

That was also the message of U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., who sounded off about the racial comment made by Elliott on Fox News this week.

A video of the report as aired is at the link.

The Left made a huge mistake by doing this - his name ID will be more at parity with Stumbo's now - notice Stumbo got no mentions in the story at all that aired. In addition, they have made Cameron nationally known, as well as highlighted Senator Tim Scott at the same time - damaging their narrative that the GOP is racist - there were almost certainly a lot of people who didn't realize there was a black GOP Senator who saw that report (by the way, I know this shouldn't matter as a primary issue, but the Left has made it that way as a narrative - highlighting this narrative as false blows a hole in their efforts).

“coon flakes”? That doesn’t make sense.

I think a play on Aunt Jemimah pancakes would have been better. “He’s eating the Uncle Tom pancakes the White House is serving.”

Disgusting. Why are Dems allowed to make ugly racist remarks like this? Not that anybody else would want to say something like this...the racial obsession seems to be a wholly owned Dem property,

Maybe she is bucking for a job with Virgnia Democrat Gov. Coonman? Maybe she was part of the cadre that derailed the Wal-Mart? Maybe she had her people harass McConnell? If there is such a thing as “coon flakes”, she owns the patent....

If a Republican had said that about a black democrat he/she would be receiving death threats.

“As African Americans, we need to be able to vote however we see fit,” Cameron told WAVE 3 News.

I imagine she means AA need to be able to say what they want. The privilege should be extended to everyone and let Free Speech roll.

Under 40s group reaction to Aunt Jemima reference: “Huh?”

‘Coon flakes’ is more readily grasped by younger voters.

FYI, for those that may not know.

'Coon' is what black people call other black people who are Uncle Toms, 'acting white', etc.

Axt Tommy Sotomayor.

A Gravis poll taken in mid-June had Cameron ahead of Stumpy, 47-36%. Stumpy had already previously held the office and has high name recognition in KY, so this is a very bad showing for him.

Dems are terrified of Cameron because he is telegenic, smart and charismatic (everything they claimed Zero was, but wasn’t). If he wins AG, he’ll be the next Governor in KY in 4 years (and/or Mitch McConnell’s successor).

It’s amazing how that phrase “Uncle Tom” has been thrown around disparagingly for decades with virtually zero knowledge of the source material. He was the hero of Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel.

Calling a raccoon a coon is a lazy southern/midwestern habit. In my days 50’s, 60’s, 70’s to now, I never thought of the word coon as a racist term. To me, it was alway a rodent with penchant for getting in my sweet corn. Talk to your black neighbor in Missouri, they more than likely will bitch cause their (coon) hound ain’t getting the dang coons/raccoons out of his sweet corn. The hound be it a red bone, walker, or blue tick hound better earn his keep. Just saying.
