BALTIMORE Friends of former Baltimore Mayor Catherine Pugh say her health has improved but that shes continuing to keep a low public profile until the investigations concerning her self-published book deals are complete.
**SNIP**
Shortly after hiring Harrison, though, Pugh resigned amid intense public scrutiny over her sale of self-published childrens books to entities with business relationships with the city.
The deals were revealed in a series of articles in The Baltimore Sun that began March 13. Pughs story shifted as she tried to account for the first deal to be disclosed, struck with the University of Maryland Medical System when she was a member of the hospital networks board.
The Sun documented that Pugh had received at least $800,000 for her Healthy Holly books, including $500,000 from the medical system. Others paying for her books included health insurers Kaiser Permanente and CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

I am unsympathetic.
But she’s an ex-mayor of color...that should count for something.
Shouldn’t this dishonest, criminal loser be in prison for her crimes? Oh, this jerk is a DIM.
Somehow I think a Baltimore jury cannot be counted on to deliver justice.
Step one would be to determine whether a law was broken. It’s possible that her particular form of bribe-sucking wasn’t illegal.
I’m sure it matters to her friends.
Books, another Democrat book seller. Who was that speaker of the house that McCain was in bed with, the guy that sold the teamsters truckloads of books, some pages only had one word. What speaker was McCain in bed with, not a very helpful clue, he had been in bed with all of them as long as they had a D next to their name.
Why haven’t the bubbling Barney Fife’s in the FBI arrested this horse faced nag?
Female and black she gets a pass
Wonder how many books were NOT sold in bulk?
That concept has been used to differentiate Intent in selling and the business of writing books.
If only bulk sales then there is no intent to be a writer. It can be considered a hobby or a bribe, when done by a politician. Thats one reason politicians now do book tours to raise sales of a book.
Ask Jim Wright for details.
Interesting info, thanks.
I’ll bet she is. A “normal life” for her is scooping up half a million buckadingdongs from a hospital whose board she’s sitting on. Nice action if you can get it.
As you say, whether or not taking money for books - some unpublished -
is against the law, remains to be seen.
However, its certain that she has State and Federal Tax issues.
Highly probable that she has election law problems also.
That’s a heck of a tagline!
So long as no one uses it against me. :-)
What a scam. Lock her up and any politician who profits from corruption.
“...Pugh is the latest in a long line of state and local elected officials in Maryland to leave office in disgrace.
And, undoubtedly, the former mayor of Baltimore will not be the last because we live in a state that seems perfectly content with a high rate of public corruption.
Disabuse yourself of the notion that this embarrassing legacy is an accident of history. The recurring corruption is the direct consequence of a combination of weak laws and insufficient resources committed to detecting, punishing and, most importantly, deterring corruption.
Nearly 20 years ago, U.S. District Court Judge J. Frederick Motz referred to a culture of corruption that has been tolerated by lobbyists, legislators and the citizens of Maryland.
