Idaho pilot becomes first woman to fly F-35 jet for Marine Corps

A commercial helicopter pilot from Idaho has become the first woman in the Marine Corps to fly an F-35 fighter jet, a supersonic stealth aircraft.

Marine Capt. Anneliese Satz, a 29-year-old Boise native, completed her training program this past June at South Carolina’s Air Station Beaufort, the Marine Corps announced last week. Satz’s training lasted four years, taking her to bases in Florida, Texas and Mississippi.

“The first flight in an F-35 is by yourself,” Satz said. "The syllabus thoroughly prepares you for that first time you take off and for every flight after that, it’s an exhilarating experience."

Now, with over 300 flight hours under her belt, Satz is set to pilot the F-35B Lightning II as part of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121, the Green Knights, in Iwakuni, Japan. The aircraft is designed to operate from short-field bases and near front-line combat zones, the Corps said.

Satz said her time flying a commercial Robinson R44 Helicopter prepared her for a career as a military pilot. She also thanked her instructors and other members of her training squadron.

Good question, perhaps she could paint her own picture on the side of the aircraft....

A close friend committed suicide about 29 years ago. He had moved to Idaho, and I hadn't had much contact with him at the time.

I happened to be doing a new subdivision across the street from his parents home. I heard his mother, who I had always known to be a strong woman, screaming loudly and running out the door into the yard tearing her hair.

She laid on the lawn and pounded on the dirt and cried Gary, Gary, Gary until she was too exhausted to make a sound.

Had he asked me, I would have sworn that he had every reason live.

I’ve always believed that “diversity” was guaranteed chaos.

Run for AZ Senator....AND lose in humiliating fashion a totally winnable race, to an unabashed America hating leftist.... only to go on to be appointed to the other Senator seat, so she can go on to lose that seat in a failed re-election bid.

GOPe = Stupid!

Doesn’t matter what you fly on active duty - more important to not bend the bird of get a flight violation.

Safe fighter pilots get hired just as fast as safe trash hauler and BUFF pilots - if their record is good and their nose is clean.

Lol, brilliant comeback on posting about former girlfriends Charlie.

It reminds me of this movie quote from “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” by Captin Gregg (the late Rex Harrison ) “And as for me morals, I lived a man’s life and I’m not ashamed of it; and, I can assure you that no woman’s ever been the worse for knowing me-and I would like to know how many mealy-mouthed bluenoses can say the same”.

You & I share the same sensibilities about the fairer sex and our habits in that manner are similar. Though in general, I’m a taciturn Yankee and don’t write about it much...I get ya.

Sorry you completely missed the he point

Women are not achievements

They were always a blessing to me no matter how short the encounter or relationship

I treated everyone of them with the same respect and attention I would have my first love

I know too well how I felt when I was alone

Never took women for granted nor viewed them as conquests

My more rake associates used to tease me I wanted to be in love with them all

I learned women don’t really do casual NSA sex as well as they purport nor did I frankly

However a good marriage or relationship is an achievement ..like raising children well

My relationship with my daughters is my most cherished achievement since you’re bringing up such things

Through thick and thin despite my ex wife and my husband in law at the time best efforts my girls came to me as soon as they could and now years later they are young women of 28 and 31 and are my staunchest allies in life and I adore them

Many a man would have left such travails behind and I can almost see why.

So yes I consider that an achievement.

The one that means the most to me.

Yes apparently it’s an attitude lost on some here. I appreciate the kind words very much

Opening up about oneself here often brings daggers for many reasons from folks ....it’s always been that way.
..
The typical poster here is simply not terribly happy and very very prone to scold

I recall a dinner party in 1996 when I was single and had been four long years....two married couples asked me if my work as a developer of warehouses and other real estate was my focus in life

I said no....a female companion was and always would be ...procuring and maintaining once found

Both couples ....Two Irish Catholics. And one Jewish lady and an Irish National who was a lawyer here

They scoffed and claimed all these other things more important like work and travel than love and intimacy ...they had been in the cups...I’m not a big drinker

A few months later I’m in the federal building downtown and the door opens and the Irish national lawyer lass steps in just she and I

Awkward silence...she’s very attractive slender blonde with huge green eyes and much younger than her MD husband

She turns to me and said “I still think about what you said that night about having a female companion was the focus of your life more than work etc and we all ridiculed you..well I confess I felt a touch of jealousy knowing there are men out there like you and I think I dismissed your answer because I miss that more than anything....”

She knew I had a fiancée by then ...my wife....as she left the elevator she turned and said to me smiling.

“Your new girlfriend is a lucky girl “

I think it’s best men like you and I stay the course.....I don’t want to live any other way.

Women and children first as they say
