I have read a great deal, and a common thread in nearly anything I have read is that when people are hungry, they will eat nearly anything, from leather shoes to other people.
The urge not to starve is an extremely powerful one, and I never want to be in that position, which is one reason I am a conservative and anti-socialist, because that is at the the end of nearly every socialist rope.
Reading about people lost at sea, they will even try to eat completely unpalatable thing raw, things like raw shark and even raw seagull, both are which, by any account, nearly impossible to eat, but...people try.
Yes, I have no doubt I would even try bugs if I had to, even without prodding from UN anti-meat scolds.
Every time I eat meat, I remind myself of where that meat actually came from (not born in a styrofoam shrink wrapped tray) so that I don’t take it for granted.
Well stated. Once again, our soft underbelly of weak minded people eating all kind of tasty animals w/o one iota of reality appears. Every piece of meat is made dead somehow. It ain’t ever pretty nor “unmessy”.
Perhaps every man and woman ought to experience the act of killing for food at least once in their youth, it would put a different perspective on what goes into the garbage.

The author is unnecessarily trying to invoke a negative response where none is needed. Ever since man has kept animals for food, they have to be killed to be eaten (duh!). The easiest and best method is to slit the throat, especially for large animals, whether “modern” people agree or not.
You cannot damn Halaal slaughter without also damning Kosher slaughter.

did you read your post? The sentence above your conclusion states: (Kosher) Done properly, it is as humane and painless a form of slaughter as exists.
I believe one could condemn halaal slaughter. Their methods are not humane nor painless.

Jews that eat Kosher meats... all Kosher meat is slaughtered alive and conscious by a slicing of the throat and trachea.

Yes, they do. The meat is enjoyed first by the families who provided the cow, and what is left over is distributed to poorer families. Although they get it wrong about the sacrifice (a reenactment of Abraham’s sacrifice of Issac ~~ moslems think is was Ismael), it is quite a time of feasting. Even non-moslems are invited to homes to enjoy a good dinner. The dinner is like us inviting others to our homes for our Christmas dinner or Easter dinner.
