Voters Defeat ‘Green New Deal’ Advocate in Los Angeles City Council Race

Republican John Lee defeated Democrat Loraine Lundquist on Tuesday in a special election for a vacant northwest San Fernando Valley seat on the Los Angeles City Council in which the Democrat backed L.A.’s version of the “Green New Deal.” Lundquist, an academic, supported L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti’s plan to shutter three natural gas power plants and replace them with wind and solar power, though officials said that would be insufficient for the city’s needs.

Lee, a former City Hall staffer, attacked the Green New Deal and received support from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 18. The IBEW, which is the largest union representing Department of Public Works employees, typically backs Democrats. However, worries about job losses due to the Green New Deal spurred the union to back the Republican in a relatively conservative area Democrats hoped to flip.

Is a Republican in California a Democrat? Seems to me California Democrats are really communists

IIRC, the far western parts of the San Fernando Valley are pretty much the last vestiges of Republicans in the city of Los Angeles.

“Democrats hoped to flip.”

Well let’s not get too excited this would have been a Rat pick up. But a win is a win and an R win in CA is worth noting.

Post 3- That is exactly the path back to rational behavior...one election at a time.

Remember, Santa Barbara County was the home of Ronald Reagan and was solidly conservatively republican. Then, the big tent inclusive nitwits tossed Andrea Seastrand and went with Michael Huffington.

Ever since that misadventure, the district has been a playground for donkeys.

Nice to see a win, but in this case, a loss would have been better long-term. Until people see their power bills DOUBLE, thanks to this Leftist crap, they’ll continue to support it.

Bummer.

I lived in Santa Barbara County years ago.

Robert Lagamarsino (not sure of the spelling) was the Republican congressman from that area for a long time.

The lines of the district were re-drawn, pretty much eliminating Ventura County from the district.

Then, in a primary circa 1992, Michael Huffington spent $2 million and defeated the GOP incumbent, Lagamarsino. Huffington then went on to win the general election.

It wasn’t long before Huffington decided he wanted to be a senator, so he spent $20 million of his own money trying to defeat Dianne Feinstein.

He lost the election, announced he was gay, and divorced Arianna Huffington.

The re-drawn district and changing demographics, plus the college kids at the University of California at Santa Barbara, turned that district blue.

When I lived out there several decades ago, Santa Barbara was always more liberal than the rest of Santa Barbara County, which was rather conservative, at least back then.

WOW! Republicans...in California?!?

I thought they were all hiding in an attic space by now, praying that the Liberal Gestapo didn’t find them!

If we articulate our position and show the real-world results of our policies versus the on-going failures that are Democrat policies, we WIN! Trump showed everyone how it is done, in 2016!

His message was pretty simple: do you see what has been happening under the Democrats? How about we try to win one this time? How about we care for Americans? How about we open up this economy for EVERYONE to succeed and stop having D.C. pick winners and losers? It worked.
