Has the Biblical Moses Been Identified in Secular Egyptian Records
Ancient Origens ^ | 8/08/2019 | Annette Duckworth

Moses was a prophet and a leader according to Abrahamic religions, but many scholars view him as a legendary figure rather than a real historic person. They do concede that a Moses-like figure could have existed in history, so is it possible to track this person down through historic records? It is the view of this writer that this is very possible and that in fact the Moses figure can be traced as that of the primary confidant of none other than Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut. The trail begins with Th Exodus.

Just from reading the clickbait headline, the answer is no.

If the Biblical Moses had been identified the headline would have told us.

Mohammed wrote his own version of the Hebrew scriptures in the hopes of convincing the Jews that he was a prophet. They laughed their asses off and told him to get lost. He came back and murdered them.

It is classed as an Abrahamic religion because its holy text cites Abraham as the father of Ishmael, who is to Islam as Isaac is to Judaism. What one may think of the actions of the adherents to the religion does not change the history of how the religion formed and what its sources were.

Looking for secular or archaeological records of Biblical figures is a tricky game best not played at all.

“Legendary”:

Like the entire Hittite Empire - until they found Hattushah.

Oops.

It amazes me how many religious people do not understand this very simple fact. The split at the sons of Abraham is what started it all.

It is also amazing that Christianity and Islam have so much venom between them when they are based on the same foundation. You would think they would be more likely to hate buddhism than each other.

Thanks fieldmarshaldj. In short, no. Perhaps this nutty claim has been circulating for a while, which would explain one of the irrational outbursts I've seen done in an FR topic.
One of *those* topics.

Thanks wildbill. Hatshepsut's record of her voyage to Punt names a Solomic-era official also named in the OT. So, in short, no.

“Abrahamic religions” That is enough to know she has not a clue about what she is talking about. How many are there?

Judaism, Christianity and Islam all claim to descend from Abraham.

Maybe there are several guys with the same name in Egypt of the time. The equivalent of John Smith on a sleazy motel register, eh?

Students of history and archeologists always have to consider an unknown factor as well as their own opinions.

I’m sure that many Muslims feel that Ishmael’s mother got a raw deal. Just looked at Genesis 16. More complicated. Sarai (Sarah) gave her husband Abram (Abraham) her servant/slave Hagar to bear him a child as she was barren and old. Hagar was pregnant with Ishmael, but then began to make fun of Sarai until Sarai got angry and began to mistreat Hagar who ran away and bore her son. God told her to go back home, then God told Abram he would have sons and birth a great nation. God also told Hagar that Ishmael would birth a great nation. Then God changed their names and said all males in the compound should be circumcised as the sign of the covenant between them and God.

The name Hittites was erroneously assigned to the people who left behind an multilingual archive, there is no Hittite Empire in the Bible. Oops.

Historians who deny the known synchronisms (and the one I mentioned is just one of many) aren't doing anything but expressing their own opinions or regurgitating some unsubstantiated 19th century notions.
