Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) on Wednesday questioned whether there would be "any population of the world left" if not for rape and incest throughout history, The Des Moines Register reported.
King was speaking in Urbandale, Iowa, where he defended anti-abortion legislation he sponsored in Congress that did not have exceptions for rape or incest.
"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?" King told the crowd at the Westside Conservative Club. Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can't say that I was not a part of a product of that."
The Catholic lawmaker argued that the circumstances of a babys conception does not negate their right to life.
"It's not the baby's fault for the sin of the father, or of the mother," he said.
The nine-term congressman has a history of making controversial comments.
King sparked bipartisan backlash in January for questioning during an interview with The New York Times how terms such as "white supremacist" and "white nationalist" became "offensive."
The comments were quickly denounced and House Republicans responded by removing King from his positions on the House Judiciary, Agriculture and Small Business committees.
The House also overwhelmingly passed a resolution condemning white nationalism and white supremacy by a 424-1 vote. The embattled lawmaker voted in favor of the resolution.
The lawmaker denounced white supremacist ideologies at the time and reiterated his stance on Wednesday. He also told the crowd that he supports his defense of the West, calling the United States "the flagship for Western civilization."
King claimed that political insiders told him that the controversy surrounding his comments was part of a plot to remove him from office, the Register reported.
"People think it was an organic media feeding frenzy, but no, it was orchestrated from the beginning," he said. "They had told me, heads up before Christmas, they're going to try to drive you out of office and get you to resign. Within 24 hours, you had people saying 'resign, resign, resign.' Why? Because The New York Times misquoted me?"
Democrat J.D. Scholten, who is again challenging King, said in a statement on Wednesday that the incumbent is putting his selfish, hateful ideology above the needs of the people of Iowas 4th district.
Excusing violence in any way is entirely unacceptable. Here in Iowa, we stand strong together in the face of violence, and strive to create a welcoming and safe community for all people, Scholten said. His comments are disrespectful to survivors and dont reflect Iowan values.
Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.) and Cory Booker (N.J.) both called on King to resign after his latest remarks were reported.
"Every Iowa leader, regardless of party, should condemn Representative Kings comments, an exercise they should all be familiar with by now, and join us in asking for his resignation," Booker's campaign said in a statement.
That’s what I think.
What sickening disgusting disgraceful comments I’m seeing on this thread from supposedly God fearing Christian Conservatives who apparently do not value all human life at all. God bless Rep Steve King, for firmly standing up against the murder of all human life and for standing up for their God given Unalienable rights and liberties.
‘No pearl-clutching “FReepers” worried about “optics” will whine and cry and piss themselves ’
ignoring ‘optics’ is what loses you an election...re Hilary Clinton and the ‘optics’ of dismissing potential voters as deplorables...
This is what happens when people go off-message. Never, ever speak of rape as anything but an evil act that should draw the maximum punishment... period.
That is a new way to view the necessity of rape and incest.
Yeah you’re doing just what the leftist Big Media wants you to do.
The Catholic lawmaker argued that the circumstances of a babys conception does not negate their right to life.
The correct response is “red herring”.
Steve King: 'Would there be any population of the world left' if not for rape and incest?Only in your family Steve.
What a dolt.
I’m really beginning to wonder about this guy. Is he an aspiring Joe Biden?
‘Yeah youre doing just what the leftist Big Media wants you to do.’
uh, yeah, okay...
OMG why is our side like this? We have no idea how to articulate anything properly.

Steve, if the New York Times misquoted your mangled "white supremacist" comments last January, you should have said so LOUDLY at the time. Why didn't you? While I doubt you were misquoted, you certainly should have recorded the NYT interview to protect yourself. You did not. What can one say about a conservative who trusts in the fairnesss and honesty of the New York Times? Your failure to record the interview was political malpractice.
You complained that your words were taken out of context, but that was not an adequate response. You never explained why you used those specific miserable words.
You might have recovered some of your reputation had you forcefully retracted your reported interview comments and released a correction. That did not happen.
And to think that there was a time when I wanted for you to run for president!
Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can't say that I was not a part of a product of that."
Which shows that the headline should be "Steve King wonders if HE would exist without rape and incest among his ancestors"
It's a weird question, but NOT offensive at all really. Hundreds of millions of women were raped by conquering armies throughout history.
The key point is: if a woman is raped, does the CHILD deserve the death penalty?
Liberals don't want to debate the RIGHT TO LIFE inherent in all people...so they pretend "King defends rape!!!"
He is somewhat right in the sense that many of our ancestors did disturbing things which led to us, but what kind if an idiotic politician would discuss this?
I (and 8 other people) would not have been born if not for a rapist who impregnated one of my grannies.
Maybe so. And I don’t really know why anyone would say this, but, whether we like it or not, we all have rapists in our family tree. Mathematics and all. Doesn’t justify, excuse or exonerate the act in ANY way.
Steve, you are not helping the situation. Let the experts handle this.
