Almost the entire population of Italy, it seems, spent the last week of June watching a boat arrive from across the Mediterranean. It was the Sea-Watch 3, a Netherlands-registered ship funded by progressive philanthropists and captained by Carola Rackete, a 31-year-old German climate-change activist. Rackete radioed that she was carrying 42 African refugees rescued at sea who were in desperate health. Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini holds that such ships rendezvous with traffickers just off the Libyan coast, and are really less interested in rescuing sailors than in transporting illegal immigrants to Europe en masse. “Taxis,” he has called them. And indeed, Rackete had been doodling about at the edge of Italy’s territorial waters for several days, charting a course less consistent with any health emergency than with a wish to land her human cargo in the European Union, where it is easy to apply for political asylum and where even those whose applications are rejected are almost never deported. Since his Lega party began sharing power in a populist coalition a year ago, Salvini’s decision to close Italy’s ports to such ships has made him the country’s most popular politician by a mile — and arguably, though he is still only a cabinet minister, the leader of the Western European political Right.

This is a modern day slave trade. Gangsters and a few radical politicians dealing in human misery, and creating a huge burden on society - all for their own personal profit.

The trip from Africa to Europe becomes possible when a young man can assemble a stake of about $2,000. Once he does, there is no better investment for him or his village than striking out for Europe.

Same logic as saving up money to buy a gun to rob people of what THEY'VE earned.

ITALY BACKSTORY----The new mayor of the "migrant-infested global village" in southern Italy's rural Calabria got elected with the support of nationalist Matteo Salvini's anti-migrant Lega party. Once considered a bunch of bumpkins, they are now in the driver's seat.

LESSON LEARNED THE MAYOR SAID: "We will welcome refugees again, but we can't have 500 to 600 asylum seekers in a town with 1,500 residents. The problem is that we had too many migrants and we lost our initial spirit of openness. A whole economic system developed with the migrants, but without making the village dynamic again... The model destroyed itself."

The “poor huddled masses” coming across the southern border may not be so poor after all. Swiss journalist Urs Gehriger recently visited African migrants who breached the border and hung out on the streets of San Antonio, Texas, waiting to go elsewhere in the country, and he met hostility from people who didn’t want to share details about their experiences, conflicted each other, and had rolls of $100 bills. In a recording played on Fox News, Gehriger asks a migrant from Congo how she got to America. She refused to say.

As Gehriger continued to ask simple questions, he said they backtracked and “were not answering at all.” “They wouldn’t tell me anything about how they got here, and then they started to get aggressive and they were contradicting each other,” he told Laura Ingraham. “One said they ran through the forest, and another said no, there was no forest, and they were actually arguing among themselves,” Gehriger said. He said they started to get “aggressive” after questions about money and help.

Gehriger believes the illegals were coached on giving answers to authorities. “I had the impression that somebody told them not to speak about it,” and acting like “now we’re here, you have to help us, give us money.” “What I found from an aid worker there, they actually do have money. Quite a few of them, because he spotted them under a tree, right in front of the shelter, counting a roll of money with hundred dollar bills,” Gehriger told Ingraham. Hundreds of migrants Congo and Angola were transported to San Antonio the week before, and city officials say they received no warning from the feds that they were coming. KENS published a story showing dozens of people milling around downtown, saying they arrived at the southern U.S. border by way of Ecuador. ETC...

Such ad hominem attacks merely demonstrate the scorn of truth--truth for its own sake--and the free exchange of honest ideas that characterizes the decadence of Western Civilization.

There was a time when ideas were held paramount, when their free exchange in unfettered conversation was the ideal, when students were encouraged to think for themselves and challenge the contentions of their teachers!

What happened?

Western Civilization in its decadent phase held the opposite of all this as its standard. Unwelcome ideas became heresy and sometimes provoked violence. Ad hominem attacks and other fallacies of logic assaulted those whose ideas were unwelcome. The free exchange of ideas was crushed by mob rule. The search for truth--truth for its own sake--was lost, and not only lost, but oppressed, truth-seekers persecuted and even killed.

Such is the decadence of Western Civilization.

It's not a new story. It's an old one. Old, sad, and horrifying.

Particularly sad and horrifying because Western Civilization is unique in the history of the world.

Its gifts to the world are priceless.

At some point, we come to a limit of how many people with no viable job skills we can support.
