Get ready for my confession.
I'm white, male and Republican. I dislike the government. I believe in the Constitution. I demand a wall to secure our border.
But I'm just getting started. I've watched violent TV shows and movies for my whole life. I don't watch unless it features cops versus bad guys, the military or the mafia.
And I've owned guns for self-defense my entire adult life. I have a concealed weapon permit. I'm packing right now. I love to go shooting ... with my kids. I took my daughter shooting to celebrate her graduation from Harvard. We shot machine guns.
Yet, somehow, despite this resume, I've never shot anyone. I've never killed anyone. I've never committed a crime. Hard to believe, huh?
Based on the hysterical propaganda coming from the media and Democrat presidential candidates last weekend, all-white male Republicans are killers and President Donald Trump is to blame -- along with 63 million Trump voters -- and banning guns is the only answer.
But they forgot to mention a few things.
The 2018 Annual Report and Sourcebook of Federal Sentencing Statistics reports noncitizens (primarily illegal aliens) makeup 7% of America's population but commit 42% of federal crimes.
Isn't it strange how all these criminals killing or committing other crimes against American citizens don't bother the Democratic Party or the liberal media? No headlines. No hysteria. No calls for action.
If Trump is responsible for every white mass shooter, why aren't Democrats responsible for the vast majority of the violent crime committed by criminals they protect from deportation in their "sanctuary cities"?
In the days leading up to the terrible mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, there were 60 shootings in Chicago. It was so bad Mt. Sinai Hospital had to stop accepting patients on Sunday because it hit maximum capacity in the trauma center. Sixty shot? How did that escape the media's glare?
A year ago, on the same weekend in Chicago, 74 people were shot, 12 of them killed -- yet, no blame for Democrats.
Chicago already has the nation's strictest gun control laws. They are a failure.
Or look south of our border. Wikipedia reports: "Mexico has extremely restrictive laws regarding gun possession. There is only one gun store in the entire country." Yet 889 people were killed in the first seven months of this year in Juarez, El Paso's sister city.
In 2017, there were 25,339 murders in Mexico. And Mexico just set a new all-time record with 17,608 murders in the first half of this year.
So, I guess the problem isn't one race. Or Republicans. Or Trump.
Did I mention the shooter in Dayton was a registered Democrat and supporter of Elizabeth Warren? Is Trump to blame? It's funny that the media didn't mention that.
The problem isn't even mass shootings. They're horrific, but they make up a tiny percentage of murders.
And the answer sure isn't strict gun control. It doesn't work. Criminals don't care, but defenseless citizens are slaughtered.
So please, let's not jump to conclusions and make bad decisions based on one very tragic weekend.

Now, the irony is that most of those 750,000 guns are illegally owned. Sure, the government properly vets the 9,000 or so legal licensees, but 98% of the firearms are owned by people outside the government’s ambit.
Basically, by criminals.
And what was the government’s solution to the high number of firearms owned by criminals?
Yup, you guessed it ...they revetted and relicensed all of the LICENSED firearm owners afresh. I had to line up for two days, then wait two months to get the new card.
Fight hard for your freedoms Americans. I can guarantee you this - if you lose even ONE INCH of your freedoms that is an inch you willing NEVER get back.
Mental health and drug addiction creates a false reality, most of these guys are socially inept loners that can be recognized by their posts on social media. This is a start in preventing these tragedies and how in the hell do these guys get these guns???? Doesn’t say much for the screening and investigation process unless the are found to be bought on the black market
The Democrats don’t who gets shot, or who shoots them. It’s about hating US, for our nonconforming principles and demand for individual rights. Anything that punishes, or at least inconveniences those who disagree with them they consider successful.
I’ve only had a pellet rifle, but I’m looking to get a handgun for home defense. Possibly a Glock 26 Gen5. It’s small enough for concealed carry, but I don’t plan on doing that anytime soon (the clothes I wear don’t lend themselves to much “concealment:...). I’m still looking, though, haven’t decided yet.
Get that gun. Heck get 3 or 4! Personally, I am a 1911 dude. Can’t get enough of them.
If you have never shot a handgun get training. Many are surprised at how hard it is to actually hit their target with a handgun.
Make sure you consistently spend time at the range. This ensures your skills stay sharp and most importantly that your gun is operating properly.
Also, you will be confronted with a lot of choices for defense ammunition. Whatever you choose, test it at the range. Finding out that those fancy hollow points won’t work in your pistol happens often. When you find a load that you like practice with it. Consistently.

Agree. I’ve got a couple 1911’s and feed it nothing but ball ammo. No malfunctions that way. Same with a little Colt 380 Pocket Lite that I often pack concealed. The only auto I have that I run “fancy ammo” in is my truck gun which is Beretta 9mm 92F. Same pistol as military issue. It will run with whatever I feed it.

Sig P 365 is much smaller, same capacity and has night sights for the same price.
I love 1911's but three summers ago I needed something smaller (and lighter) for a change in my lifestyle. I bought one of these, added a pocket holster and I ain't NEVER going back.
I still keep a slabside in my nightstand, but that's where it stays.
And that too is based on the original 1911 design. It’s the design I like more than anything else about the 1911. I have a couple short barrel frames of different makes also. I like having that hammer.
