The studio's decision came a day after President Trump took aim at the film, saying it was "made to inflame and cause chaos." The story follows a group of elites hunting "deplorables" for sport. Universal has decided to scrap the release of The Hunt — an R-rated satire in which elites hunt "deplorables" for sport — following a series of mass shootings across the country. The film had been set to hit theaters on Sept. 27.
The studio's decision came a day after President Donald Trump took aim at the film — though he didn't name its title — and Hollywood, saying on Twitter, "Liberal Hollywood is Racist at the highest level, and with great Anger and Hate! They like to call themselves “Elite,” but they are not Elite. In fact, it is often the people that they so strongly oppose that are actually the Elite. The movie coming out is made in order to inflame and cause chaos. They create their own violence, and then try to blame others. They are the true Racists, and are very bad for our Country!"
Even before Trump weighed in, the movie sparked an outcry on social media amid the public anger over gun violence and networks entered into the conversation when ESPN pulled an ad for the film that it had previously cleared. Subsequently, Universal paused its marketing campaign out of sensitivity to the recent mass shootings.
Referencing the decision to scrap the release altogether, the studio said in a statement, "While Universal Pictures had already paused the marketing campaign for The Hunt, after thoughtful consideration, the studio has decided to cancel our plans to release the film. We stand by our filmmakers and will continue to distribute films in partnership with bold and visionary creators...

Interesting how everyone in Hollywood is screaming gun violence yet at the same time releasing a film called “The Hunt” where people are hunting deplorables and killing them.
Hollywood when are you going to take responsibility for your push of violence into the minds of youth ?
Good riddance. Despite that, Universal has opened pandora box on attacking Trump supporters. Nothing new as this is already occurring but the movie, released or not, makes this mainstream, even “acceptable”.

I can’t get over how they keep calling this macabre twisted slasher flick a ‘satire’...
I hope Universal and all that invested in the production of such a POS lost every dime.

When will the world wake up to evil? Evil doesn't care about the 'choice of victim'... It's the act of evil that matters - not what group is targeted at any given moment.
I daresay that the movie market appealing to Trump supporters is at its nadir, so why dillydally with “The Hunt”’s release unless it’s for more publicity?
Teensy basis in reality would have deplorables hunting the elites back by the middle of the movie. No wonder they call it a satire.
Since they pulled it, no harm, no foul, right?
What is “gun violence?” Is it when guns shoot people all on their own? I have a couple and they’ve never been violent. They never loaded themselves or fired themselves. Since a lot more people are injured and killed in motor vehicle incidents why don’t we hear about car violence? Cars occasionally do unexpected things like not stop when you want them to or go when you don’t want them to, but I’ve never heard of a gun firing itself unless someone was messing with the trigger.
One side has millions and millions of rounds of ammunition, plus the hardware and expertise, (vets, former LEOs, hunters, long-range target shooters, combat pistol shooters, etc.) to very effectively use it.
And the other side can’t even begin to figure out what gender they are and/or which bathroom to use. Obviously, what this firm portrays is sheer lib fantasy. The reality is this would NOT turn out well for the libs. The so-called “hunter’ would quickly become the “hunted”....BIG TIME.

Hollywood isn't your friend. If they pulled a film, it's only because they've decided they don't want you to see it and not because they're looking out for your best interests.

Typical misdirection. The uproar wasn’t over their beloved “gun violence.” Nor was the damned thing a “satire.’

Problem is, if the word got out that the deplorables were the good guys and kicked ass all these complainers would lose their victimhood status.

All of which would be a piss-hole in the snow and practically useless in a full-on SHTF scenario. They’d be overrun and wiped out in a week.
