What are the rules of engagement? Honestly - it seems that borders should mean nothing if the gunfire coming your way is from the other side of it! It’s obvious that the US/Mexico border is a de facto war zone. Let’s treat it as such.

Yes by policy a border patrol agent would be allowed to respond with lethal force. The Military would have different rules of engagement. I dont know what the rules for the military are, but I would not be suprised if they were not allowed to shoot back.
We are allowed to shoot back. As for why they did not I do not know. Maybe they were out gunned and decided it would be better to leave.

I cannot tell you about the response from the USBP boats but our Texas DPS gunboats DO shoot back with MG.
(I was told by one of our troopers that M2 heavy MGs are “being considered for the gunboats”, in addition to the 7.62mm MGs.)

I think a little demon possessed coward in jail for shooting unarmed shoppers promoted a lot of racism. I ask the Freepers to denounce racism. Yes, the armed officers should give an appropriate military response.
