House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said Thursday that his House panel is conducting an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.
Nadler added that the committee will decide by the year's end whether to refer articles of impeachment to the House floor.
This is formal impeachment proceedings, Nadler said in an interview with CNN's Erin Burnett. We are investigating all the evidence, we're gathering the evidence. And we will at the conclusion of this hopefully by the end of the year vote to vote articles of impeachment to the House floor. Or we wont. Thats a decision that well have to make. But thats exactly the process were in right now.
Nadler's remarks Thursday come as other House Democrats continue to urge his panel to launch an impeachment inquiry more than half of Democrats in the lower chamber have said they support launching an inquiry.
The House Judiciary Committee is investigating whether Trump should be impeached, Nadler noted.
The fact is, we are doing an investigation. We are investigating the facts, investigating the evidence, Nadler said. We are going into court to get witnesses all with a view toward deciding and recommending to the House whether to impeach the president.
Nadler has urged Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to back a formal impeachment inquiry, but Pelosi has cautioned that impeachment would be divisive and ultimately unsuccessful. Nadler, however, said the Speaker has been very cooperative in the Judiciary Committee's investigative efforts, adding that she signed off on recent court filings that clarified whether to call his panel's investigation an impeachment inquiry.
Democratic Rep. David Cicilline (R.I.) confirmed Thursday that the committee had begun impeachment proceedings.
"As @RepJerryNadler just said on CNN, we have begun impeachment proceedings on the Judiciary Committee," Cicilline tweeted. "Lets see where the facts take us and hold this President accountable."
But Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.), the committee's ranking member, pushed back on their characterization.
"Chairman Nadler is either uniformed about what a formal impeachment inquiry is or he is deliberately misleading the American public to score cheap political points. Which is it, Chairman?" he tweeted.
Nadler's comments come after House Judiciary Democrats last month asked a federal court to provide the House with confidential grand jury material from former special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation. The lawsuit said the panel was conducting its investigation to determine whether to recommend articles of impeachment; Nadler said it was "in effect" an impeachment inquiry.
On Wednesday, the panel filed a lawsuit against former White House counsel Don McGahn. McGahn has defied the committee's subpoena for testimony regarding allegations that Trump obstructed justice in Mueller's investigation.
The Judiciary Committee is now determining whether to recommend articles of impeachment against the president based on the obstructive conduct described by the special counsel, the filing stated. Democrats wrote that McGahn is the committees most important fact witness in its consideration of whether to recommend articles of impeachment.
Nadler said Monday that his committee could decide whether to move forward with articles of impeachment against Trump by late fall, but warned that such a decision requires certain conditions.
Nadler indicated that this decision would be made after court rulings on several cases, including Democrats' efforts to obtain redacted information from Mueller's report on Russia's election interference and whether to enforce the panel's subpoena against McGahn and other former aides who have declined to testify about their time in the administration at the request of the White House.
What 'EVIDENCE' does Nadler have we haven't already seen?
Nadler is as stupid as that Al Green idiot who called for an impeachment about three weeks ago.
The result of which was an overwhelming vote of confidence for President Trump as Democrats voted not to impeach.
Fat, liberal and stupid is no way to go through life.
each bit of Ohr 302 coverage should be on FR as a separate thread. there is so little of it, it needs some attention.
take control of the narrative. ignore the MSM and Dems agenda.
8 Aug: Washington Times: Trump dossier author feared Congressional investigations, Bruce Ohr 302s show
By Jeff Mordock
Christopher Steele, the ex-British spy who compiled the salacious anti-Trump dossier that sparked the Russia investigation, feared Congressional inquiries, according to new documents released Thursday night...
In May 2017, Mr. Ohr told the agents Mr. Steele was worried about the upcoming Senate testimony of then-FBI Director James Comey. The 302s do not indicate specifically what he feared Mr. Comey might say, but he was especially concerned about questions that he expected to be raised by Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican. At that time, Mr. Grassley chaired the Senate Judiciary Committee...
Mr. Ohr also told the agents Mr. Steele informed him that the United Kingdoms disclosure laws were more narrow and thus restricted his ability to testify before Congress, according to the release...
Mr. Ohr is the Justice Department official who met with Steele and Glenn Simpson, who was head of opposition research firm Fusion GPS. His wife, Nellie Ohr, worked for Fusion GPS during the 2016 presidential campaign.
In the months prior to the election, the Hillary Clinton campaign and Democratic National Committee hired Fusion GPS to dig up dirt on her opponent, Donald Trump...
8 Aug: Daily Caller: Justice Department Releases Bruce Ohr Interview Notes
by Chuck Ross
Ohr said Steele told him in one conversation in September 2016 he was desperate that Donald Trump not get elected and was passionate about him not being the U.S. President....
Mueller investigation should never have begun. once it had begun, it should have been shut down when it became common knowledge Hillary and DNC funded the dossier used in the FISA applications.
no way should this nonsense have last beyond the mid-term elections (thus helping, no doubt, to give the Dems the House and creating more headaches for the President).
Jerry doesn’t look well. Hate will eat one alive and Jerry appears to be well consumed thus far. hate is ugly and Jerry is glaring proof of it.
This is formal impeachment proceedings, Nadler said in an interview with CNN’s Erin Burnett.
Nadler doesn’t know his grammar. He means “these are formal impeachment proceedings”, not “this is impeachment proceedings”.
When Trump has ever misspoken in this manner, he is roundly criticized.
OTOH, Toad of Nadler Hall will end up on display at Uncle Benito’s Esso Station...
The standard is “high crimes and misdemeanors” not simply “we don’t like his policies.”
C’mon clogged arteries and coronary heart disease, as well as other conditions resulting from being a grotesque, pants up to the neck bastard! Do it! Do it! Do it!
So.. They’re investigating. They haven’t actually begun to move forward with impeachment. Unless they have something the public has not yet learned of, there is no way impeachment can succeed (legally).
This is formal impeachment proceedings
= = =
As I recall, a ‘Formal’ was a dress for a special dance.
So, did Nadgler get a corsage for Donald?
It’s good that Nadler fails to recognize he’s made a fool of himself and is seeking more opportunities to show his @$$.
He’s just making sht up to please the demented, ignorant base...
nadler is a typical LIB /DIM lunatic who revels in wasting taxpayers’ money. What a putrid pathetic subhuman oaf. Hopefully , his delusional hatred will devour this uncivil malignancy .
