“the actual message you describe wasn’t there to be seen”
No? The murderous and immoral people conducting the hunt seemed to be the heroes to you? You think they are going to win in the end of the film rather than the plucky, resourceful female that always wins in these kinds of films?
“Serious question — where did you get this information?”
Basic logic and familiarity with films. You know, like the type of knowledge that if you see a guy with a mustache and British accent, he is probably a villain? If you see an attractive female lead who is facing long odds, she is the hero? Little children can pick up on this stuff, because these tropes are as old as the film industry.
“It puts too many thoughts in addled heads, something we’re seeing a lot of these days.”
Meh, I don’t buy arguments like this. This film is based on a book from 1924, and there have already been at least five film adaptions of it. So you’re not putting that genie back in the bottle.
Besides, sick people think sick thoughts just fine on their own, I don’t believe trying to censor entertainment for the rest of sane society is going to stop sick people from doing whatever they want to do.
As far as your dismissal of such a film's ill effects, I must disagree.
It's a bad idea to keep the crazies thinking about going on shooting sprees. A bad, bad idea. And movies like this do exactly that.
‘You think they are going to win in the end of the film rather than the plucky, resourceful female that always wins in these kinds of films?
every film today has to have said plucky little 110 pound female saving all these able bodied males’ bacon, while cooking dinner for the kids and caring for both sets of aging parents...all followed by some preachy commentary on how women can care for themselves very well, thank you...Hollywood has to contain the laziest ‘creative artistes’ in the history of humankind...
