A war with Iran will involve the extermination of the Mullahs. It will not be done by the USA but the Iranian people themselves.
This is what President Clinton did to Yugoslavia in 1999 and they surrendered.

Are they bucking for more effective sanctions?
How many hours would it take to knock out their long and intermediate range missile sites? Then to decimate their short range, surface-to-air, and radar sites? And then hit a few military complexes? Then what happens after that?
War is Hell. Don’t count on easy endings.

If memory serves, Iran is big on petroleum but short on refinery capacity. Take out whatever refineries they have and see how they like it.

Saddam Hussein once said that. I recall he was later quoted, from his hiding hole, to say "Just kidding.".... Or was it, "Suprise, you found me!"?
Let’s get realistic. A war with Iran would need the approval of several regional powers there. I think Trump could build a coalition with most of them. I think Saudi Arabia, along with their a few of their neighbors. Of course, Isreal would join but we would tell them to “sit this one out” again, so as not to dissuade the enemies of their enemies from joining. But it would also need to include commitments that only local Islamic countries and forces be allowed to invade and pillage Iran. I do think, maybe hope, the Iranian people would rise up to govern themselves more responsibly. They are not quite isolated to the extent of NK, Iraq or Afghanistan. Their people know how the rest of the world lives.
It is also somewhat reassuring that the Persians are NOT stupid. I know their leadership is totally insane, but as a people, they are not dumb.
I sure hope so. If the province of Khuzistan secedes, there go Iran’s oil revenues. Problem solved. No war. No occupation. No fatigue or disgust. Instead, Trump becomes the hero of the Ahwazi Arabs, and Arabs in general maybe (OK. Maybe not).
I know...right? Like,40 years ago I helped plot a strike on Tehran that would have melted everything for hundreds of miles. We had rogue pilots who desperately wanted to be the ones on first drop. If the anxiousness and tension was so high then, imagine what the technology of today could do. To completely take out all threats and yet not cause nearly the damage. It would indeed be the mother of all wars in that it would be total devastation (for them) in such a short time. The “vacated” country would make an excellent retirement destination for ex-pats.
I pity the population because of the stupidity of their Mullas or whatever they are. The people there are nice but the government is a bit wacky.
