How The Media Redefines “Racism In Trump’s America” (The word has now become meaningless)
Hotair ^ | 08/07/2019 | Jazz Shaw

If there’s one thing everyone on the left, including most of the mainstream media, can agree on it’s that Donald Trump is a racist. We hear it on a daily basis like a drumbeat that never ends. It’s almost as if our cable news betters fear that if they stop repeating it, people will cease believing it. But when pressed to provide examples they fall into a familiar, stumbling pattern. I ran across yet another example this morning in this “think piece” from the Associated Press.

While they manage to provide some balance by including people objecting to these characterizations, the argument that the President is promoting racial animus is the prevailing theme. But when it comes time to cite some proof, here’s what they offer.

Racial and ethnic polarization has been a hallmark of Trump’s political rise and is central to his reelection. He’s warned of an “invasion” at the southern border, posted racist tweets about four women of color in Congress and attacked Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings’ largely black district as a “rat and rodent infested mess.”

Let’s address those in order, shall we? First, there is the much-touted reminder that the President “warned of an invasion at the southern border.” He certainly did. But his accusers conveniently leave out the context in which that phrase came up. One prime example can be found in the President’s remarks from November of last year, conveniently stored at the White House website. Here’s what he actually said, and repeated at many of his rallies.

At this very moment, large, well-organized caravans of migrants are marching towards our southern border. Some people call it an “invasion.” It’s like an invasion. They have violently overrun the Mexican border. You saw that two days ago. These are tough people, in many cases. A lot of young men, strong men. And a lot of men that maybe we don’t want in our country. But again, we’ll find that out through the legal process.

As should have been obvious already, Donald Trump was referring to the migrant caravans that hit us in waves for months on end. Many of them numbered in the thousands, all arriving at once and overwhelming our border security resources. And yes, it brings up images of an invasion. The fact that these migrants were primarily Hispanic has nothing to do with it. We could have ten thousand Norwegians traveling down from Canada with the intent of entering the country illegally and it would be just as much of an “invasion.”

The claim regarding “racist tweets about four women of color in Congress” is a convenient dodge. He’s obviously referring to AOC and “the squad.” (When will we be done with that phrase?) I’ve yet to see one instance where he referenced the race of any of them. They constantly insult and antagonize Trump and he’s the type who hits back. He also tweets disparaging things about Nancy Pelosi. Does that mean he hates white people too?

And finally, they summon up the President’s recent tweets about Baltimore which we’ve covered here previously. The fact that parts of “Elijah Cummings’ largely black district” in Baltimore is overrun with rats has nothing to do with the race of the residents there. I can show you some almost uniformly white districts in rural parts of Tennessee that are plagued with trash and rats as the meth industry causes the region to sink into decay. Baltimore’s previous mayor famously pointed out the problem with rats and trash, but since she is black I suppose she gets a pass.

Are there still racists out there? You bet there are, and some of them can become violent as we’ve recently seen. But if they’re taking a racist message from any politician’s words it’s because they hear what they want to hear. And they lurk in chat rooms where others reinforce their distorted views. What they do with that racial hatred, however, is their own choice and their own responsibility.

You can accuse Republicans of racism all you like. But if you expect to be taken seriously, you’re going to have to do a much better job of making your case.

A waste of time trying to get the “Progressives” to see a fact and then make a comparison to their beliefs. It ain’t gonna happen, waste of time.

Once you understand race has been conflated with culture, the Democrat party propaganda makes sense. Race is used as a proxy for culture. Hence, a person can act “black” or act “white” regardless of skin color.

This also means criticism of another culture is considered racism. And believing Western Civilization is superior to other civilizations and cultures is considered white supremacy.

Make no mistake, it is not “whites” who are being attacked but Western Civilization.

Agreed. It is also a waste of time trying to get President Trump's supporters to agree that he is a racist. We know he is not...it's a bunch of lies.

The whole effort is to keep the blacks on the democrat plantation. Nothing more, nothing less.

Candace Owens has started the Black Exit (Blexit) movement. I pray she succeeds.

Could be both. They’re not mutually exclusive.

I suspect most of us have seen real hatred and real racism (or some other -ism) in our lives. Sometimes it is soft, like when Joe Biden called Obama "clean." Sometimes it's not quite as soft, like when anti-Semites like Roger Waters spew their venom under the guise of BDS...but you still can't pin them down on it. Sometimes it is non-existent, like when you see a gang of thugs walking down the sidewalk and you cross the street.

Then you get an ISIS type who throws gays off rooftops or kills women for adultery.

The problem is that the lines between the Jaywalker and Uncle Joe and Pink Roger and Mr ISIS have been blurred by the SJWs such that any level of general discernment is drowned out of the public square. Even pointing out physical differences is racist or some other -ist. As a result, the real evil that lurks in men's hearts can come out in the open because of the SJW-provided camouflage.

A cabbie in NYC once drove right past me and one of my best friends (who is black and was hailing a cab) and picked up a white guy 200 feet away. It happens and yes it is wrong (and at the risk of getting mushy...it hurts); I think it was worse than Biden and on par with Roger Waters but not like ISIS. There IS a difference, but as long as these lines remain blurred in the public square then ISIS-like hate will grow unabated.

You can’t call hordes of people streaming across the border an “invasion,” but requiring a sonogram before an abortion constitutes a “WAR on women.” If one cop somewhere uses excessive force on a black man when making an arrest, AMERIKKKA is “waging a WAR on young black men.” The left uses hyperbole ALL THE TIME.

Now it is become meaningless? It has been many years since “racism” had anything to do with the dictionary definition. It is a synonym for “disagreement” and is a label for people who are not part of the Left. A racist is one of THEM in the leftist world of Us and Them. It has nothing any more to do with belief about race.

"Sometimes it is non-existent, like when you see a gang of thugs walking down the sidewalk and you cross the street."

A few weeks ago, walking home from the store, I crossed a street mid-block because my house is around the corner on the other side. Just after I crossed the street, I noticed that a young black man had been walking in my direction just before I crossed the street.

There was nothing suspicious or menacing about the man, and his being there had nothing to do with why I crossed the street, but I thought, "Oh crap, I bet that guy thinks I'm a racist because I crossed the street when I saw a black man approaching."

I think a lot of times people attach a racial significance to an incident in which race was not even a factor.

It is still powerful when prominent conservatives waste time and make themselves look pitiful by denying they are racists and virtue signalling by stating that of course they believe all these things they believe the Left to be accusing them of. A number of talk show hosts have wasted large segments of their programs protesting their innocence of racism. Hannity even gets into it occasionally. Hey you guys! I'm not really a racist! cross my heart! What comes to mind when I hear it from politicians and businessmen and Talkers is "The lady doth protest too much."

The inciters use race as a proxy for culture to manipulate the incited. In that sense, yes, both.

Excellent point! I had not thought of it in this way, but it makes perfect sense. Thanks for the enlightening post.

Yeah well the media has been covering for their murdering cocaine cartels running Mexico. No one is supposed to report on any truth in Mexico. These leftist need their blow, man. So of course they would cut and paste Orangeman Bad and forget the true context.

. . . and the attackers are far more attached to Western Civilization than they like to believe. What this country needs is not elites talking down to people, but people who think they dislike Western Civilization actually experiencing third world life.

Long enough to want to kiss the tarmac when they get back.

Another thing they cannot grasp is even if the POTUS was a racist, I would still vote for him over a progressive any day of the week.

I thought, "Oh crap, I bet that guy thinks I'm a racist because I crossed the street when I saw a black man approaching."

And THAT, my FRiend, is prima facie evidence that you are NOT a racist NOR that you harbor Biden-like verbal tendencies. Many of us worry about how our actions may be misinterpreted out of the goodness of our hearts and (dare I say) love for our fellow man - not out of personal fear of our public character. We have empathy and we care a lot about this stuff. The MSNBC-lot....they could care less.

Post of the day.
