Makes on wonder about the validity of the Article when the posted photo is not of the current 747 Air Force 1.

Boeing has to pay for the 737 Max debacle somehow.

Of course it might be fake new, but if it is not, what happened to on time and under budget? Oh wait, the Deep State.

The major cost was to design a method that can make Air Force One disappear at the flip of a switch by the pilot..The ultimate security system

Wouldn’t AOC be impressed if he shunned the airplane and switched to a used old bus like in the movie Major League?

Lower carbon footprint. Rig it up to be hybrid electric. Secret Service could ride in Smart cars. Press corps on scooters.

She’d say “Still a white racist. Just riding in a bus. Not much improvement.”

The additional $1.3 billion comes from associated costs, like building hangars for the new jets.

Then ANY new version of Air Force One would have this added cost that is unrelated to the construction of the craft. When was the last time the cost of a garage was factored into the cost of a new car?

747s have ended production and are being retired...and THAT is the new AF1?

Seems odd. Hope they bought a lot of spare parts.

CANCEL IT.

Passing the buck to Joe 6 Pack for their 737 Max imbroglio.

TEACH THEM A LESSON.

A yes. That is where the real graft and corruption in military contracts goes. After all, who cares about a hangar.

Hey Ellen:

It isn't Trump's new Air Force One. It is the the Air Force's plane that will be used to transport the President, whoever it may be. And if Trump doesn't get re-elected, he will probably never even ride in it. With an planned delivery date of 2021, it probably won't be ready until 2023 at the earliest.

Hopefully the additional cost is related to Boeing NOT outsourcing anything to EXTREMELY cheap Asian labor rats.

(Have you seen the debacle of the 737 Max? ! )

I don’t trust Boeing as far as I can throw that 737.

The new model, the VC25B, is relatively the same as the 747 except it is longer, wider, and capable of going further and cruising faster than its predecessor. “The basic reason for updating them is that the existing fleet of planes are just getting old,” Todd Harrison, of the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), says.

Switching to newer planes provides the obvious benefits that come with a modern aircraft—more efficient engines and better reliability—and is also a chance to install new defense and communications equipment which will include a communication system that has plagued the aircraft for years with cutoff calls. It will; also contain a broadcasting system so the president can be broadcast from the aircraft.

It will have a skin on it designed to ward off electromagnetic pulses if there is a nuclear detonation and will have the capability to deal with a weapon like a shoulder-mounted heat-seeking missile, which would be a risk during takeoff or landing.

There will be other measures, but the military is not supplying any more information about defensive or offensive weapons. And Trump will not be in office when they are put on line in 2424, so it is not for him. It is for the president. And face it, the POTUS needs a slick ride, right?

I wish people would remember that AF1 is no normal passenger jet. It has all the defensive bells and whistles of combat aircraft. that stuff costs money. Now is Boeing milking the situation, of course they are.
