FBI Wants Tech to Track Social Media for Criminals and Terrorists Before They Act
Nextgov ^ | JULY 31, 2019 | Brandi Vincent

The Federal Bureau of Investigations aims to acquire access to a “social media early alerting tool” that will help insiders proactively and reactively monitor how terrorist groups, foreign intelligence services, criminal organizations and other domestic threats use networking platforms to further their illegal efforts, according to a request for proposal amended this week.

“With increased use of social media platforms by subjects of current FBI investigations and individuals that pose a threat to the United States, it is critical to obtain a service which will allow the FBI to identify relevant information from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and other Social media platforms in a timely fashion,” the agency said in the RFP. “Consequently, the FBI needs near real-time access to a full range of social media exchanges in order to obtain the most current information available in furtherance of its law enforcement and intelligence missions.”

Though the request was initially released on July 8, the FBI amended it this week to extend the relevant dates: The agency’s answers to vendors moved from July 25 to Aug. 7, and the proposal due date shifted from Aug. 8 to Aug. 27. Though the original proposal listed the anticipated award date as Aug. 30, it could be pushed back due to these changes.

Still, the proposal comes at a time when society is growing accustomed to the painful reality of the weaponization of social media outlets to cause harm. Earlier this year, a mass shooter in New Zealand opened fire at two mosques killing 50 people and injuring many more—he posted a 74-page manifesto and images of his weapons online ahead of the attack and livestreamed the shooting directly on Facebook Live. And the shooter who killed three people at the Gilroy Garlic Festival in California Sunday also previously posted online about an 1890...

I don’t trust the FBI. Trump has done a lot but the Deep State is VERY deep and sinister.

Plus, I’m not sure their interference in social media is constitutional. You must have probable cause for a search which is what this most certainly is. You can’t constitutionally investigate to FIND a problem you don’t know with specificity ahead of time. Like the unconstitutional Mueller investigation.

The feds going off the rails.

Hell no. We already are living in a nascent police state. Deep State cannot be trusted.

I suspect the thug arm of the democrat party isn’t going to be looking at antifa, violent black and brown street gangs.

Nope the FBI’s after white middle class men who are a threat to the power of democrat white ‘elites’ like Peter Strzok and his ho Lisa Page... None of us have anything in common with a 21 year old nutcase but any excuse to put a boot on the face of conservatives is a go with thugs.

After all, the job of the secret police is to intimidate the party that’s out of power. Right?

Doesn’t the big black monolithic NSA building in Utah already do that? I know it does.

So anyone who disagrees with John Comey’s worldview would be a suspect? And he might do something to entrap that person...oh wait.

He already did that.

How do you know who is a criminal before they act?
The proposal is ridiculous.
What they are really saying is spy on American Citizens enmasse for no reason. Just in case.
This proposal does not prevent crime, it just makes everyone subject to how much information the government has on you.
With the zillions of laws, everyone is a ccriminal.
They were watching the boston bombers, but they couldn’t do anything until they murdered. Or so they say.
Sounds like TSA in every facet of your life. Great, idea.

Wasn’t there a movie like that a couple of years ago where they could catch criminals before they committed the based on genetic analysis?

This will work well.

After all, EVERYONE trusts the FBI given its unblemished record of honesty and trustworthiness.

Here’s an idea....the FBI could do the job they are being paid to do.
Oh they did managed to murder 80 people in Waco and 2 at Ruby Ridge.

Nothing is going to change at the FBI until agents start going to prison.

Will it track people who illegally use their positions in government to attempt to cripple presidential candidacies and unseat lawfully elected presidents?

Already:

You pay more insurance if you smoke or ride a motorcycle. After all, you cause more risk to the company, right?

If the cops know you pose a higher crime risk, don’t you therefore merit a higher amount of policing..?

Who has an argument against the LOGIC..?

This is why Barr is so valuable to them, sickly burying their crimes while seeming to Trump’s hopeful as if he is actually prosecuting it wherever necessary instead.
