An Army soldier is being hailed a hero for saving the lives of several children during the shooting in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday.
Army Pfc. Glendon Oakley Jr., 22, said he was inside a sporting goods store at the Cielo Vista Mall when a child ran inside and began shouting that there was an active shooter nearby.
Oakley said once he exited the store, he saw children running everywhere. A group of them were huddled together in the malls play area, screaming for their parents. He said he tried to get others to help him get them to safety, but no one stopped.
I try to get a couple of other people too, you know, grab other kids, but parents are so worried about themselves, theyre gone, he commented.
Im just thinking about the kids, so I pick up as many as possible and carry them with me and another guy does as well, he said, adding, I wasnt really worried about myself. I was worried about the kids.
Oakley told reporters that he does not have children, but said in the circumstances, he did what I would want somebody else to do if he was a parent.

“parents are so worried about themselves, theyre gone,
Hard to believe.
I heard SOME parents are so bad they’ll send their kid into a foreign country ALONE:
Can you believe that..?
Hmmmm. Well I was in foreign countries alone and unsupervised a lot when I was 14/15. Of course that was in the early 60’s in what is now the ‘yewwwwwww’. You know, back when europe was fun.
Did you ever walk along across a DESERT..?
As a 14 y.o. illegal invader?
Oakley told reporters that he does not have children, but said in the circumstances, he did what I would want somebody else to do if he was a parent.
Hopefully he does want children and a decent dame will have enough sense to see that this guy likely would make a good father.
I’m thinking if the kids were in a playground area, maybe the parents couldn’t get back to them. But, it would be very sad if they didn’t even try.
Well done Pfc. Oakley. God bless you!
A lawyer I know has fond memories of his boyhood years in Afghanistan in the early 1960s when his parents were stationed there in the US Foreign Service. In that era, before Islamism took hold, Westerners were honored guests and Kabul was orderly and law abiding.
Well that is pretty dangerous.
This is a great story
I just wonder at the parents who left their children alone in a play area at a mall.
All the play areas at Malls I have seen had parents with the kids.
Despite the Shah being so corrupt, Iran was advancing pretty well back then.
“Despite the Shah being so corrupt”
Fakenews didn’t start with DJT. The leftwads used it to take out Ferdinand Marcos, as well as the Shah and several others.
How much better it would have been for humanity had men of good sense put an end to the left back then.
I flew on the Shah’s DC-9 in the 70’s.
One of the many new laws (a law is something that makes a politician feel more powerful and makes people feel safer), will be requiring parents and children to wear devices that prevent parents from letting their children play alone. When I was a kid I was allowed to run wild, but with much admonition and within many perimeters.
Fox News did an interview with him yesterday afternoon. Nothing flashy about this young man, just did “what he was supposed to do”, in his words. Gives me hope for the future.
Interesting. Care to regale us with some stories?
Yesterday I thought this guy was in his 40s?
Maybe this guy should primary Elijah Cummings.
PFC Oakley must be awarded the “Soldier’s Metal” for his actions. (Will someone in his Chain-of-Command please start the action!)
