Police and other emergency services in Ohio are responding to a shooting with multiple fatalities near downtown Dayton, local officials and witnesses say. Only few details are currently available.
The incident happened just after 1 a.m. on Sunday when police were called for an “active shooter” on or near East 5th Street in the Oregon District. Details about the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately known.
According to initial reports, multiple people have been shot, but there is no official word on the total number of victims. A video taken by a witness appeared to show at least two bodies near the scene of the shooting.
A large number of emergency services are at the scene while officers work to secure the area, which is close to a number of bars and restaurants. A suspect is believed to be “down,” but police have yet to confirm this.

It is, I believe, like that terrible day Att.Gen. Janet Reno announced triumphantly and boldly that a "home grown terrorist" white man had done the Oklahoma City bombing in April, 1995. News reports had discussed Arab looking men in a van rushing away and being followed later by police. And an unrelated topic radio interview recording I heard later had a woman suddenly get a call ,ask "Next door to here!?", panic and abruptly race out of the studio just before the bombing happened "next door."
