The news media will "obsess" on these events for hours and days which in turn lures the weak-minded into seeing this is an opportunity to become "center stage news" nationwide by doing something similar.
I completely agree. They are trying to get more shootings. I think there is a certain contagion factor, and a desire to one-up previous death counts. I think Columbine was the impetus for some of this. We had mass shootings in the 1980s, but they were covered differently. Columbine mad the two killers into anti-heroes.
