Representative Will Hurd announced Thursday that he will not seek re-election for his Congressional seat. He has represented the district stretching from San Antonio to El Paso since 2015.

In the 2018 election, he won a close, expensive race against Gina Ortiz-Jones. He is currently the only Republican representing a district that borders Mexico. He has 17 months remaining in his term.

On Twitter, he said he would pursue opportunities outside of Congress to solve problems involving technology and national security.

Another GOP "retirement". The last election was very close so this will certainly be targeted by the Democrats.

I HATE tin foil ideas, but any chance deep state holding things on these people and telling them to step down?

I don’t know who the reps are and if it makes sense in most case that they are leaving.

Making sense would be being old or running for senate.

But I guess there’s lots of other reasons.

I can’t make up my mind if it’s the deep state applying the pressure for them to step down or, did Trump’s team lay a few words of prayer on them?

Hmm.

Trump’s tough and he WILL DO what he thinks he needs to in order to get the congress he wants.

I keep forgetting that we have a street fighter on our side now too.

This jack-wad is stepping down because there is not a chance in hell that he will get re-elected! He has proven to be a die-hard RINO, and his constituents KNOW it!

They have let him know that he was NOT going to make it out of the primary!

Good riddance to bad rubbage!

He needed to, in order to win in his majority (70.8%) Hispanic district. His victory margin in his 1st term was 2%. In his 3rd and current term? 0.5%.

This district will probably swing blue in 2020.

Has nothing to do with the primary. His district is 70% Hispanic I believe. A solid conservative Republican has little chance in such a district. This one likely flips Dem in 2020.

Back Story from Wikipedia:

Hurd worked for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for nine years from 2000 to 2009, stationed primarily in Washington, D.C., including a tour of duty as an operations officer in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India.[9][8] He speaks Urdu,[10] the national language and lingua franca of Pakistan, where he worked undercover.[10] One of his roles at the CIA was briefing members of Congress, which is what made Hurd want to pursue politics.[11] He returned to Texas after his CIA service and worked as a partner with Crumpton Group LLC, a strategic advisory firm, and as a senior adviser with FusionX, a cybersecurity firm.[8]

Bribed or blackmailed, either works.

For the life of me, I don’t see why the heck conservatives won’t find and run DINOs in ‘Rat primaries.

Why the heck are we waging half a battle?!

Hispanic doesn’t mean Democrat. That district has been 70+% Hispanic for years.

That region, which was created in 1967 and goes from San Antonio to the border and all the way across to the edge of El Paso, was Democrat dominated until 1992, but so were many Texas offices. Since then, Republicans have held that seat 11 of 13 elections.

Will “The Turd” Hurd was not going to get re-nominated. He was already told, but his district that he was going to get a primary challenger. THAT tells you that his region is not happy with him anymore!

If your theory is correct, he could switch to the Democrat party and win in a landslide, right? Hurd represents a pretty strong Conservative part of San Antonio and several of the blue-collar, oilfield, conservative towns just west of Odessa and Midlands. Plus the district does NOT include El Paso-proper, so that keeps the district Conservative. But, because the district runs along the border, it always “leans Democrat,” but I think that is just on paper. The results above show that to be just on paper.

A lot of Republican politicians retiring. I wonder if someone (read Soros) is promising them a good retirement package if they retire now?

You got that right. Will Turd was no better than a democrat - an utterly worthless example of a human being.

Dr. Alma Arredondo-Lynch, a dentist from Uvalde County, is running again for the 23rd District seat in the primary to be held on March 3, 2020. The winner is expected to face the Democrat woman who nearly unseated Hurd last time.

He has represented a R1 district so it is not impossibile that this seat will be held by our side. He of course cannot be a down the line Conservative and h old it as it is 70% Hispanic. But, I think Will B. Hurd will be heard from again.
