US pulls out of Reagan-era arms treaty, saying Russia 'made no efforts' to comply

A historic arms-control treaty signed three decades ago by President Ronald Reagan and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev was scrapped after President Trump decided to withdraw Friday.

The move to scrap the Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty comes amid the administration’s assessment that Russia was in “material breach of the treaty” and made no effort to “come back into compliance” with the agreement, a senior White House official said.

Russia was given a six-month period, in accordance with the treaty, as a “final opportunity to come back into compliance” with the agreement, but the government headed by President Vladimir Putin “has made no efforts to do that,” the official added.

Now to get rid of Bubba's suicidal decision to conduct only *simulated* tests on the stockpile for reliability.

(If only we could claw back Hazel O'Leary's giving the W-88 warhead design to Russia, and the Clinton admin's allowing Loral effectively to give MIRV guidance technology to Red China. Every last member of Clinton's administration should have been executed for treason for that one.)

Not really. The tail is wagging the dog. The reason why the treaty abandoned is because China is not a part of it. Won’t say to pull out is a bad thing but is has factually nothing to do with what Russia does or not.

I didn’t know “Reagan-era arms treaties” were even still in force; all those “republics” are now independent countries. Maybe the Soviet Union made no effort to comply - because they closed up shop 30 years ago.

How do you “simulate” a nuclear explosion?

Leftist/Media Logic:

Trump (or Bush) Statement: “Russia is building and deploying multiple-warhead missiles in violation of the INF Treaty.”

Leftists/Media: “Don’t be alarmist”

Trump (or Bush) Statement: “Because of what Russia is doing, we’re pulling out of the treaty’”

Leftists/Media: “That’s destabilizing and will start an arms race”.

This is the crap we’re dealing with and have been dealing with.

Computer models. Much like 'climate' models and likely just as accurate. /s

No harm is going to come from this. Present day Russia is not the nuclear menace it was during the cold war era, when Russia was much bigger and ruled by men like Stalin. Nowadays, the nuclear menace comes from places like Pakistan.

Arms control agreements are like gun control.

Only law abiding citizens/nations of the planet comply.

Follow the agreement/gun control laws at your own risk.

Others won’t, and you’ll be in their sights.
