Chinese Military Commander: Hong Kong Protests ‘Absolutely Intolerable’

The commander of China’s armed forces in Hong Kong declared protests in the city “absolutely intolerable” on Wednesday, alleging the protesters are violent and vowing the military will “resolutely safeguard” China’s interests in the city. The remarks occurred at an event to commemorate the anniversary of the founding of the communist People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and mark the first time the most senior military officer in Hong Kong has remarked on the protests.

Both members of the pro-democracy movement and the international community have expressed concerns that China may send the PLA into Hong Kong to silence and kill protesters as it did in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square in 1989. The protest movement began this year with a gathering in June attracting nearly 200,000 people to the heart of Hong Kong to honor those the Chinese killed in Tiananmen Square.

PLA Hong Kong Garrison Commander Chen Daoxiang called the protests “a series of violent radical incidents” and accused them of being a threat to peace in the city. The protests, he argued, “seriously disrupted Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, seriously challenged Hong Kong’s rule of law and social order, seriously threatened the life and property of Hong Kong citizens, and seriously violated the bottom line of One Country, Two Systems.”

....

“Some foreign politicians, those anti-China elements in particular, have always harbored the ulterior motives of turning Hong Kong into a battlefield to damage the relationship between the mainland and the [Special Administrative Region],” the People’s Daily, the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China, quoted Tung as saying. “Hong Kongers shall by no means be used by them.”

They better watch out. Red Chinese don’t like concepts like “liberty” and “self-determination”....then again, neither do American Democrats.

Thanks. No crystal ball here, but I have zero doubt Xi could have the PLA mow them down like grass. I hope he stays his hand, but the fact is that of the Communist Party pantheon, he’s intolerant of dissent to an extent exceeded only by Mao.

In the US you get Antifa waving communist flags and in Communist Hong Kong you have protesters waving American flags. Interesting contrast. It is only a matter of time before these people in Hong Kong are murdered, their bodies pulped under tank threads ,burned and washed away like Tienanmen square.

China Uncensored on YouTube had a good vid about this yesterday.

Amazing to think the PLA could intervene.

The most violence occurred over the weekend when Triad gang members were hired to bust up the protests, but that has fizzled out.

It's hard to tell what's really happening. I read the SCMP site for info, but it looks very censored.

the chinese rulers better get used to a little humility in the face of the Will of the People. Hu may be boss now, but he will be Robespierre and share his fate if he starts a new reign of terror, aka Cultural Revolution. The people WAY outnumber the elites now. (and have internet)

If China cracks down on the protesters we should invalidate all debt held by China.

There’s smart phones now. There weee none in 1989

Commie bastards won’t be able to pull anything off without the world knowing instantly

They’ll have to not care and they’re too wary for that

Doesn’t sound like that will happen. President Trump has said anti-government protests in Hong Kong are “riots” and their handling is a matter for China.
