“He should not have done this publicly but privately.”

Nonsense! The Military Lawyers are a meaching, disgraceful lot! My father was a Lt. Commander in the Navy stationed in Australia during WWII in the Supply Corps. Admiral Halsey complained that his PT Boats were out of service for the lack of shaft seals. The problem was getting them from the States. So my father went out on the Australian economy to have them made locally. He was able to get nearly every aspect of the seals covered exception of equipment for “rolling the seal body over the cover.” So he had a draftsman change the parts to make it possible to thread the mating parts and secure them against coming apart by incorporating a tangent screw. Halsey gave him a commendation, because now not only were all his boats operational, they found that they could carry the “seal's innards” while they were out, and they could unscrew the cover after disconnecting the prop shaft from the engine, and simply change the “guts” and go on their way. (The Navy "design" required that the boat be pulled out of the water) At the end of the war a f*cking Navy Lawyer showed up in my Dad's office to inform him that he was “to be courtmartialed for tampering with Bureau of Ships design!” My Dad told the a$$hole that he had been away from his family for nearly five years, and he would immediately accompany him to Washington and “wave one of the seals in front of Congress.” Then he called the SPs and had them take the lawyer to the airport and make sure he was on a plane back to Washington! (he never heard anything further, but it just shows you how counterproductive these jerks are) So when it comes to lawyers, while 95% of them are worthless $hit, in the military, the percentage is likely higher! Thank God Trump isn't a lawyer! And show me one of the RATs running for the Presidency that isn't!

Lawyers are JAG OFFICERS, not enlisted.

If and when they are convicted of crimes I’ll agree with you 100%

"By the way, I’m retired Air Force officer and have seen misconduct like this before."

As a former USAF JAG officer, I have to add that I have as well.

“I’m not sure why a military lawyer would ever get a metal for lawyering.”

Welcome to today’s military! In the officer corps., “it’s all horn and no driveshaft!”
Some of them, can’t even command a ship without running it into commercial traffic.

That alone should tell everyone all they need to know about Jeb! Boosh and friends. A deliberate effort to prop her up.

I have used that pic too.

“I hope that rescinded medals become the least of their worries.

And likewise for all the chain of command who approved them.”

YES! Because the fish stinks from the head!

They give medals for “Typing Above and Beyond the Call of Duty” now. You should see the rows of ribbons that people who never left the office wear now.

JAG OFFICERS, at least many of them, see themselves as the old Soviet Political Officers.

That is a wonderful story about your dad.

Big problem today though: The fucking lawyers (nearly) run the military, and commanders are scared sh*tless to do ANYTHING without the JAGs approval.

Its a freaking cancer on the military (though to be fair, its simply a symptom of the disease that has ruined American life - we are an over-lawyered and over-regulated society).

It’s the commanders who authorized the awards who should be punished for several reasons: They gave awards to Naval Officers,(Lawyers), who failed on all counts except one minor charge, they showed their undue command influence with these awards and they showed they really wanted the defendant to go to prison for a long time and had decided his guilt before any trial. The lowest level award for doing something special. But the circumstances around this particular award raise it’s profile dramatically.

Of coarse it’s true, we all watched it happen. Didn’t you watch the trial? Didn’t you watch his wife getting some release from his confinement? I don’t know why these guys haven’t been busted, but I think that President Trump was absolutely right to rescind their award. Maybe it was a hint to their superior officers that they should be doing exactly what you suggested.

Those Navy Lawyers put that Navy Seal in solitary confinement for months.
Those responsible should be demoted, disbarred then dishonorably discharged.

Speaking as a former (USAF) Jag officer with some insight into the military law culture, I think that what the president is doing here is firing a "shot across the bow" of the entire JAG system in all of the services.

It has nothing per se to do with the officers who prosecuted this case and EVERYTHING to do with putting the military JAG establishment on notice that making their rank on the hides of the fighting men and women who are actually in combat is no longer looked at favorably.

The President is the 1800-lb gorilla over all the military and bad publicity/criticism from the C-in-C is something that the Jag departments are VERY sensitive to ....
