Governor Gavin Newsom of California sits in the catbird seat. His state is falling apart - with homelessness, medieval pestilence, millions of unvetted foreigners coming to claim services, stratospheric housing costs, choking greenie regulations, faltering electrical grids, out of control wildfires, and soaring crime -- yet in his rigged blue one-party state, he hasn't got a thing to worry about. The state will always be blue, right? No need to try to improve anything to stay in office. They've got it rigged.
So instead of fixing things, he's focused on what's important to him: Keeping President Trump off the state's national election ballot in 2020, by signing off on a bill requiring him to release five years of tax returns, something he knows Trump is not going to do. Here's NPR's report:
A new law in California will require candidates for president to release their tax returns in order to appear on the primary ballot in March, 2020.
"States have a legal and moral duty to do everything in their power to ensure leaders seeking the highest offices meet minimal standards, and to restore public confidence," said California Gov. Gavin Newsom in his signing statement Tuesday. "The disclosure required by this bill will shed light on conflicts of interest, self-dealing, or influence from domestic and foreign business interest."
Ah, our own moral good, see. What would we do without such watchkeepers of it? It's kind of like the mullahs do it in Iran, vetting candidates, setting preconditions on the ones they allow, all to keep us pure. Here's Newsom's tears and flapdoodle version of it:

Nope, unconstitutional. States don’t get to add their own requirements.
California is now 100% Democrat. No GOP in any statewide office and the legislature is rock solid Dem majority.

What he’s focusing upon is the primary only, and believing that the state has some control over this. In actuality, the Republican Party is the only one with some control or standing over who is listed in the primary for their party.
If they’d written this and said that ALL candidates for ALL offices, have to provide some tax return...he might have gotten the interest of the Supreme Court to hear the case and be entertained by it.
This changing of ballot requirements is a model for what the 'Rats would do to the US, as they become radicalized. If they get both houses and POTUS one day, watch out!
The DemonRATs under cover of law are telling the Republican and other parties how they can run their primaries?
I think if they actually managed to keep the sitting POTUS off the ballot it would be a slam dunk to toss CA’s EC votes.
Remember this story the next time you hear Stacey Abrams or other Dems caterwauling about voter suppression.
I’m sure glad that California has absolutely everything fixed in the state.
Now, they can focus on important stuff like this.
What if he wins a write-in? I don’t see the Cali delegates going to William Weld.
The GOP will soon be as irrelevant as the Greens or Libertarians.
What’s he afraid of? CA is a demonrat state and will vote for the RAT in the next presidential election.
I hope his law is declared unconstitutional in the ‘Nutty’ 9th, to add insult to injury.
so much hatred and wasted energy Is he afriad cal will vote for a republican. This is the last state that would do so in our current political situation. Maybe one day Cal, especially city dwellers, will wake up and smell the rot, but I don’t think we’re very close.
If this isn’t unconstitutional, then what would be? The state would be denying millions of voters the opportunity to vote for the candidate, or committed electors of their choice. And releasing tax returns is not required by law to run for president.
He blocked the death penalty from being enforced ignoring the victims and their families. He would release the murderers if he could. Blocking a candidate from the election process is just something else he wants to do.
Looks like a good time to suspend CA’s voting rights in national elections.
I mean if they are play like children; let’s treat them like it. No supper tonight and no President candidates on the 2020 ballot; including those approved by the dems and governor. End of story.
In the West, we call this “Pissin’ In The Wind”. President Trump will never win Cauliphonya anyway. What difference does it make? Too many illegal aliens and foreign national voters in that state.
