The city council of Saonara, a town with 10,000 inhabitants just outside Padua, has introduced a new law making it illegal “to blaspheme against any faith or religion” and utter foul language in public.

as an Italian-American, I’ve been to the Padua. Dont believe the nice Google images, it’s like Baltimore LOl just kidding..close to it. Other than the Basilica’s, it’s OK but there are basilica’s all over Italy..

Blasphemy is fine, within an institutional church and applied only within an institutional church. As part of secular law it is contrary to freedom of speech.
