WASHINGTON (AP) The Democratic presidential contenders have some inconvenient truths to grapple with.
It's not easy, for example, to summon foreboding words on the economy accurately when the U.S. has been having its longest expansion in history. Health care for all raises questions of costs to average taxpayers that the candidates are loath to confront head on.
And in slamming President Donald Trump relentlessly for his treatment of migrants, the Democrats gloss over the record of President Barack Obama (and his vice president, Joe Biden), whose administration deported them by the millions and housed many children in the border "cages" they assail Trump for using now. The candidates will be pressed on the economy, health care, immigration and much more in their second round of debates, this week in Detroit.
A sampling of the campaign rhetoric on a variety of subjects and how it compares with the facts:

THE FACTS: There is hypocrisy to be called out here.

Wow, the lies are so thick that even the AP has to admit it... (or trash the candidates they don’t like).
I was talking to my cousin from western Pennsylvania yesterday. Im visiting for the family reunion. She voted for Jill stein in 2016 because the two were so awful. Well anyway, she thinks shes going to vote trump this time because democrats are all trying to give away everything free. Democrats think people are stupid and dont realize that taxes will go up big time for all this free stuff. There are many like her who were stupid in 2016 but see the picture clearly in 2020.
translation: The AP has internal polling data indicating that if they stay on their current course the Democrats are going to get absolutely stomped by Trump next November. Hence they are urgently trying to force them to make a course correction.
People such as your cousin could be a big factor in support for Trump. Reason being, in 2016, Trump was a political unknown, making promises as all candidates do, but he had no track record in politics.
In 2020 he will be running on a record of some significant accomplishments. In 2016 he had no record or long history such as Hillary had. The re-election campaign will be very different just because the 2020 Trump has a record to run on, whereas the 2016 Trump was a political newcomer.
My ad blocker caught forty four advertisements so it must be the AP. :-)
They always have an agenda—and it looks like the current crop of Democratic candidates are not a part of it.
When the moment is right they will shill for _some_ Democratic candidate.

I went back and checked all the links.
It really is from the Associated Press.
It’s actually a very good article and I will use it to do my online battles with Leftists.
Many have scoffed if the link is from anything right of center like Fox News. I also scoff at crap from Salon or Slate, Rolling Stone, etc.
Anyway, they won’t scoff at the AP. Well, they probably still will, but it is THAT much harder.
Thanks for posting this. Someone will probably get fired and they’ll pull it, but I’ve saved it!
What candidates? Trump has sucked the news away from their campaigns so effectively that I barely remember they exist
Wow! Earlier truth from Occasional Cortex that PR should become independent and now this from the AP. Wow, just Wow!
The AP committed accidental journalism.
That's weird. Are pigs flying?
Prayers for the brave young AP writer who wrote this - and for the editor who let it slip by...
Prayers for the brave young AP writers (CALVIN WOODWARD, AMANDA SEITZ AND HOPE YEN) who wrote this - and for the editor who let it slip by... harkins back to the old days when AP was a news organization...
Maybe it's a sign the AP is getting wants their credibility back... for years the press lied right along with democrats on all these issued covered in the piece...
Every candidate the AP wrote about is full of Bullshit. By default, I guess all the others are too.
I have particular difficulty with cameltoe and the squaw. Both are top notch bullshitters.
If it is, arent you in the wrong for posting it???
